I look in the mirror and grimace at my failed attempt at dutch braids. "Screw it" I mumble annoyedly as I brush my hair out and grab a hair tie, simple double buns never fail to impress. I walk out of my bathroom and Adalie's frantically throwing my jeans everywhere, "Geez D, do you wear any jeans under a size 3?" I look at my waist "Well I haven't grown much so..no?" Adalie yanks a pair of jeans out of the dresser, "Size 4!" and she runs into the bathroom. I sit on the bed and Zach looks up from his phone, "You look like somebody kicked your puppy" I look at him with thanks that was so helpful sarcastic look. "Ok, what's wrong?" he sits up and James takes his AirPod out. "Nothing," I say and James and Zach exchange a look "Spill," James says looking back at me. "All alright fine, Remi's gonna be there so I'm" I trail off "Nervous" James continues "Aw so you haven't talked to him since you two got paired up?" Adalie says walking out of the bathroom and adjusting the jeans around her hips. "Yea, kinda" I hide my thumbs and get up to grab some shoes. "He likes you, he's too chill around you," Zach says, "I thought they were supposed to be nervous around people they like?" Adalie says "You don't know the art of man, Ads," James says, chuckling.
"So he likes her because he's nonchalant around her?"
"Basically, men like to act like we like girls so they fawn over us till we finally give in"
"That's dumb you guys just lead us on," I say fitting my shoes on
Zach shrugs and gets up, "It works doesn't it?" We all follow Zachary out as I grab my bag off of my fluffy vanity chair. Gen walks up the stairs and stops in front of us "Where are you all going?" I raise an eyebrow, she doesn't usually ask. "Party, why?" I squeeze in front of James and see Gen munching on Pocky, with bags under her eyes and long sleeves. I remember Aunt asking me if she could turn up the heat why would Gen wanna wear long sleeves, unless- no she wouldn't she went to rehab she's fine. "Have fun" she grumbles before slamming her door. "What's up with her?" James asks walking downstairs, I don't even know.
We get to the party and we hear the bass boosted music before we see the house. Travis's house is a couple of neighborhoods away and it's a huge modern house built about three years ago so most of the properties around it are newer as well. Adalie parks a little ways from the house and I sigh getting out of the car. "Do I have to be here? My reruns are on" I say grabbing my phone "Yes if you weren't here then how would get closer to Remi?" I look at her sly grin and it slaps me in the face like I should've known "You got me here to-" she just shrugs and walks over to the house with James and Zach. Adalie is a master of persuasion but I didn't know she used her powers for good, can I even call this act of persuasion good?? I mean he has a girlfriend that just hates my guts for some reason. Yea this isn't good.
I walk into the house, it's only 9 and I see girls sobbing on the stairs and men sliding down the banister. I quickly slide out of the way as a drunk freshman I've never seen before slides down and the drink he was holding drink sloshes onto the floor. I really really hate this. The house is really open, there's a staircase when you first enter, The kitchen and the den are connected with the dining room across from it and a bathroom down the hall, that I'm assuming has been puked in already. Somebody taps my shoulder, I turn and Adalie's grinning at me "No" I automatically say because anytime she grins like a fool we either end up with half the fire department at my house or working at an ice cream shop for five hours. "Here, just take this and have some fun." She hands me a red Solo cup and I'm trying to stop my urge to dump it in the plants next to me. "Fine" I grumble, Adalie looks behind me and I turn around to see Xavier winking at her from the kitchen. "Seriously? Stoner boy? Even I know how that ends" I look at Adalie and I notice she's wearing more makeup than usual "You knew he was gonna be here too didn't you?" she giggles "Your not the only one with a crush!" I roll my eyes, at least mine wasn't a weed smoker and a total player. Adalie doesn't seem like Xavier Briggs's type but I'm not one to judge. I throw my free hand up. "Fine, go have fun" with mister heartbreaker. I wanna be a good best friend but I know that if she really likes him I can't stop her I just wish somebody could, even if it's not me.
