The next day, the 13 chat had a message. It was from Danny.

Hey guys. I'm leaving the 13. I don't want to be a part of this group anymore. Don't contact me ever again. I want nothing to do with any of you. I'm sorry to everyone but Cassie. I'm sure she's happy to be seeing me leave. Nate can take my spot. I'm sure he'll fit in better than me. Goodbye. Don't ever talk to me again. Fuck you all. Go die I a hole. I take back my apology. I hate all of you.

And with that, he left the chat and our lives.

Forever.
-
I had been talking to Andrew and Perry.

"Can Nate join? 'The Lucky 12' doesn't sound right," I told them.

"We'll talk it over with the rest. It's okay with us, though," Perry said.

"Josh is fine with it, and as far as I can tell, so is Madaline," Andrew said.

"Xavier and Steven won't mind."

"So does it have to be unanimous or majority?" I asked.

"Unanimous," Perry and Andrew said in sync.
-
The next day, the vote was held.

"All in favor of allowing Nate to join the once 'Lucky 13' say your name," I called out.

A chorus of names rang out. I heard everyone say their name.

"It has been decided! Nate will be allowed to join the twelve of us and we shall once again become the 13!" I cried. "WE WILL REIGN SUPREME!" I know I'm weird.
-
I walked next door to Nate's house. His dad was mowing the lawn. He looked at me and nodded, answering my unasked question.

I walked through the front door and up the stairs. I knock on the door. I hear a scrambling and a few muttered cuss words.

"Umm...now is not a good time....," Nate called.

"Why?" I asked.

"I'm in the middle of.....things."

"What kind of things?"

"I'd rather not say."

"Fine." I turned away from the door. I had a pretty good idea of what he was doing.
-
I came back an hour later. Hopefully he was done. I knocked on his bedroom door.

"Come in!"

I slowly opened the door. "Hey. I've got news on the vote." I tried to make my face look as sad and solemn as I could. I avoided eye contact.

"What'd they say?" asked an eager Nate. I cast my glance downwards. I bit my lip.

"They said..."

"They said...?"

"They said yes!" I cried. "Welcome to the the 'Lucky 13', where one day, we shall rule the universe, crowns made of genuine bacon. Or turkey bacon. Both are good
But real looks better." I have no doubt that I'm some crazy psychopath.

"Yes! I'm so glad to hear it." Nate waved me over to his bed. I shut and locked the door behind me.

I sat down next to him. I leaned in and planted a kiss on his lips.

That kiss seemed to have lasted an hour, which in fact, it did.
