When everybody was awake, Samuel appeared at our doorstep
"Can I help you?" My father asked.
"I'm here so we can start planning our wedding." Samuel explained. He was wearing the same grey coat he had yesterday.
"I'll allow it." Father sighed, letting him through. I had previously told Terri to not take his coat. My sisters, fiance, my mother, and I all sat at the kitchen table to discuss.
(I know that Eliza and Alex got married in December, but I'm changing it.)
"Date?" Mother asked, dipping her quill in the ink to write things down.
"Day after ours." Eliza told her.
"The day after?" I echoed. "Wouldn't we be stealing your thunder?"
"No." She shook her head. "We've been the focus for almost a month. It's your turn."
Samuel and I nodded slowly. I noticed that Mother was writing a letter.
"Who's that to?" I asked.
"Samuel's family." She told us.
"I wrote to my father last night." Samuel informed her.
"I'd like for him to hear from Philip and I as well." She smiled at him.
"Yes, ma'am." He submitted.
"Time?" Angelica asked. Peggy was just observing the conversation.
"What?" I looked at her.
"What time will the wedding be?" She elaborated.
"Dusk." Samuel said quickly. "Dusk?"
I nodded.
"And for the more important things, who's the maid of honor?" Peggy leaned forward.
"I haven't thought about that yet." I admitted.
"Best man?" Eliza glanced at Samuel.
"Uh... Either Alexander or York." He said slowly.
"Who's York?" Peggy asked, raising an eyebrow.
"My dog." Samuel told her, careful not to look at Eliza, who let out a cough.
"I vote Alexander." Angelica declared.
"Are you kidding?" Peggy slammed her hand on the table. "I vote York."
"What do you think, Bianca?" Eliza sighed, turning to me.
"I don't know." I fiddled with a piece of cloth on my dress.
"I think Alexander." Mother told us. "York can be the ring-bearer."
"Oh, speaking of rings..." Eliza held out her hand for Samuel and I to place rings into. He pulls a metal ring out if his coat pocket and placed it in her hand. I handed her the ring off my finger.
"It was my grandfather's." He explained.
"That's lovely!" Mother exclaimed, examining his ring. Eliza tucked them both into a small bag.
"Maid of honor?" Peggy asked again.
"Eliza?" I looked at my sister. "Peggy's too young, and Angelica's your maid of honor."
"So you want me to be yours?" Eliza guessed. I nodded. "Peggy and Angelica will be bridesmaids?"
"You need three more." Mother told me. I thought back to Samuel's sisters.
"How about Samuel's sisters? Abigail and Richelle?" I asked. She nodded and went back to writing.
"Now we need groomsmen." Angelica nodded. "You have a brother, right?"
"Caleb." Samuel agreed. "Caleb, John, Hercules, and Lafayette."
"One more." Mother told him, not looking up.
"I- I have a childhood friend." Samuel told us. "Jack?"
"Perfect." Angelica beamed. "All we need is a flower girl."
"My sister, Richelle, has a young daughter." Samuel remembered. "Anna."
"Perfect!" Peggy clapped.
We sorted out the food, the seating, but Samuel had to leave. When he did, Mother pulled both Eliza and I aside.
"I have to show you something." She told us and began walking down the hall.
"Is something wrong?" I asked, following suit.
"On the contrary." Now she's pulling a trunk from under her bed and swinging it open. It had four dresses in it.
"What is this" Eliza asked, staring at the dresses. Mother pulled out a satin dress with a pink bow on the waist.
"Eliza." She then handed me a more lacy one, "Bianca."
"When did you get these?" Eliza asked.
"After Peggy was born, Philip and I bought four wedding dresses." She explained.
This is exactly the kind of dress I wanted!" Eliza explained. I nodded excitedly.
