~The funeral~

We all went in a carriage to the church, but left Boston behind. Clem was in long before us so we couldn't tell if she had brought her violin. I wore a black dress and a black coat, Samuel wore a black dress shirt and coat, and Clem undoubtedly wore black as well. The carriage began it's course, and we were soon at the church. Eliza was seated delicately in the very front row next to her husband. Angelica was seated by Alexander, which was as close as she could sit to our sister. I led Samuel and Clem to the front to sit by them. Miraculously, our daughter had her black leather violin case in her lap. We (Seabury's, Hamilton's, Barker-Church's, and Schuyler's). Angelica married John Barker-Church were on the left side of the church. This is the order from far left to more towards the middle: Father, Mother, Clem, Samuel, me, John, Angelica, Alexander, and Eliza. The church is pretty wide, so we all fit just fine.

Samuel had my hand in his comfortingly, thumb lightly stroking my knuckles. Then everyone looked up to see as the Priest began to speak.

At the end of his speech, we were all allowed to speak. Eliza opted out, as it was far too painful. Alexander tried, but could barely utter a word before he tried to stifle tears and sitting back down. Angelica and Clem stood up and went to where the Priest was. Angelica sat down at the piano and Clem stood beside at and unlatched her violin case to pull it out. Samuel's eyes widened and I squeezed his hand.

Then our daughter began to play her violin. Angelica followed the rhythm on the piano.

When they sat back down, Clem had tears streaming down her cheeks

When they sat back down, Clem had tears streaming down her cheeks. Samuel scooted over so she could sit in between us. I hugged her and she sniffled.

The funeral progressed until many people have spoken, but none of our family could bring themselves to.

The next chapter takes place a year after the funeral.
