I woke up to the next morning to the sound of Sam's ringtone playing.
"Hello?"
"Just making sure you were up for school."
"What time is it?" I asked as I yawned.
"6:30"
"Fuck I'm running thirty minutes behind.
"Damn I'll let you go then don't be late."
"Okay bye." I said before hanging up.
After I hung up the phone I jumped out of bed and ran to my closet, instead of taking my time and being picky about what I wore I settled on black leggings and a gray oversized sweater. After I got dressed I threw my hair in a messy bun, ran to the bathroom to brush my teeth, grabbed my school stuff, and ran car so I could get to school on time which shouldn't be hard considering I got dressed in 15 minutes. I pulled into the school parking lot five minutes before the bell for first period rang so Sam and Nate were still waiting for me.
"Hey Ava." Nate said before pulling me into a hug.
"Hey guys I missed you so much." I replied pulling Sam in for a hug also.
"We missed you too." Sam said squeezing me tighter.
"Hey we should start making our way to the building." Nate suggested.
As we walked to the building I could feel a pair of eyes on me when I turned to look behind me to my surprise the pair of eyes on me were Gilinsky's and even after I turned to look at him he didn't break eye contact. I didn't want things to be awkward so I just gave him a slight smile before turning back to face what was infront of me. After we got inside we went our separate ways. The first few classes went by really fast and then it was time for English which I was oddly looking forward to.
"Hey Ava." Gilinsky said as it sat in my seat.
"Hey Jack." I replied with a smile.
"So are you feeling better?" He asked as he dug through his backpack not making eye contact.
"Yeah I'm okay."
*Gilinsky's P.O.V*
She says she's okay but I don't believe her I can see the pain in her eyes it's something I've always noticed...I just hope things get better for her.
"Okay class I have news you're going to be do a project." Mrs. Jackson said as she shut the classroom door.
"Do we get partners?" Someone in the front questioned.
"Yes you do get partners whoever you're sitting next to is your partner just to make things easier."
I was secretly celebrating because I was looking forward to spending more time with Ava so I could get to know her.
"So the project is fairly easy you will simply just spend time with your partner and get to know them for about a month I don't know I don't have a set due date yet so I'll get back to you on that, but anyways you'll get to know the person and write at least a page about what you've learned about them."
"So my house or your house?" I asked as I turned to look at Ava.
"Hmmm we can do it at my house if you want."
"Okay then your house it is." I said with a smirk.
The day went by very quickly so after school I followed Ava to her house when I pulled into the drive way I ran to the door to meet Ava.
"Damn." I said under my breath.
"What?" She asked turning to look at me.
"Nothing it's just you have a really big house." I said shoving my hands into my pockets.
"Oh yeah."
"What do your parents do?"
"My mom is a lawyer and dad is a CEO of some big company."
"Oh well that explains it."
"Yeah."
"Where are your parents?" I asked as we walked to the kitchen.
"Business trips." She said shrugging her shoulders.
"For how long?" I said standing in the doorway of the kitchen.
"A month."
"You must get lonely especially being in this big house."
"Eh sometimes but I mean I'm used to it." She replied as she shrugged her shoulders.
That is quite possibly the most depressing thing I've heard her say.
"You shouldn't be used to that."
"Well I mean you kind of have to be when work comes before family."
"I'm sorry."
"Sorry for what? Life isn't fair you take what you are given I was just given two workaholic power hungry parents I'm okay with that I had to accept it a long time ago." she said turning to face me.
"It's just th-"
"Enough about me tell me about yourself."
She said obviously trying to change the subject.
I could tell she was going to be doing this a lot and I'm not looking forward to it.
"Well what do you want to know?"
"What do you do for fun?"
"Oh I make vines with Jack." I said smiling a bit.
"Oh show me one!" She said getting excited all of a sudden which made me really happy because I haven't seen her smile like that in a long time.
I showed one vine and then the night turned into us laying on the floor in her living room just talking about things...it was like we had known each other forever and we were best friends, I could get used to this.
