"So my house or yours?" I asked Jack as we walked to our cars after school.
"Neither." he said.
"Neither?" I asked furrowing my eyebrows.
"We're gonna go to a diner and eat instead of just going home." he replied with that silly grin on his face.
"How far away is this diner?" I asked raising and eyebrow.
"About an hour." he said as he shrugged his shoulders.
"An hour!"
"What?" He asked I could tell he was confused by my reaction.
"That's so far away it'll be late when we get back."
"Ava it's Friday it's not like we have school tomorrow and besides you're not driving I am." he said with a smirk on his face.
"Okay just follow me to my house to drop off my car." I said as I got in my car and shut the door. When we got to my house I had to change and take a quick shower because I had athletics at the end of the day and I was a bit stinky. While I was in the shower I told Jack he could come inside and wait for me downstairs. After my shower I threw on a crew neck I stole from Nate a while back, a pair of skinny jeans and my brown uggs. Once I was dressed I threw my hair in a messy bun, put my hair in a messy bun and made my way downstairs to Jack.
"Sorry it took me so long." I said as I ran to the living room.
"Are you kidding me?"
"What?"
"It only took you like twenty minutes that is the fastest I've ever seen a girl get ready so no need to apologize."
"Oh okay." I said smiling a bit.
"So are you ready to go?" He asked as he walked toward the front door.
"Yeah I'm ready." I said as I grabbed my purse.
"Oh no need for that." he said with a grin on his face.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah I'm positive."
"Okay let's go then." I said as I opened the front door motioning for him to lead the way.
**********
"So what are you gonna order?" Jack asked as he watched me look at the menu.
"Umm I'm probably just gonna get a salad and some water." I replied as I set my menu down.
"That's it?"
"Yeah..."
"What have you eaten today?"
"I don't feel comfortable discussing my eating habits with you Jack."
"Okay just please try something other than salad....how about a burger?" He suggested.
"Okay fine I'll try the burger." I said getting a bit frustrated with him.
"Wow don't get too excited your head might pop off." he replied rolling his eyes at the lack of enthusiasm I had.
"Shut up." I snapped narrowing my eyes at him.
"Someone's feisty." he said smirking at me.
"Gilinsky I don't understand how one person can be so unbelievably annoying."
"Me either teach me your ways." he replied with a smug grin on his face.
"You think I'm annoying?"
"Yup." he said popping the p.
"Well I doubt I annoy you as much as you annoy me."
"Hmmmm no I think you do annoy me more than I annoy you." he said poking my nose with his finger from across the table.
"You guys are seriously the cutest couple I've ever seen." Our waitress gushed as she came up to take our orders.
"Oh we're not-"
"Aww thanks, babe did you hear that she thinks we're cute." Gilinsky replied cutting me off.
All I could do was stare at him, I could feel my face heating up.
"Aww baby girl you're blushing, sorry she gets embarrassed really easily." he said as he reached across the table to grab my hand causing my face to turn and even darker shade of red.
"Aww she's so cute." The waitress said smiling at us.
"Yeah she's such a cutie." Gilinsky smirked at me.
"So what can I get you guys?"
"We'll have two cheeseburgers and two chocolate shakes."
"Alrighty I'll have that out as soon as possible." she said before walking away.
"Why did you do that?" I ask smacking his hand away.
"Do what?" He asked as he let go of my hand.
"You told that waitress we were dating." I said through gritted teeth.
"I was just playing along I didn't want her to feel awkward if we told her we were just friends gosh you act like dating me could be the worst thing in the world." He replied laughing at my reaction.
"Well it's not funny we should have just said we were friends." I said as I tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
"Ava calm down next time I won't give someone the impression that you're dating someone like me." he said as he rolled his eyes. I mean maybe I am overreacting but he shouldn't have lied without giving me a heads up.
"What do you mean someone like you?" I asked narrowing my eyes at him.
"I don't know someone who isn't as rich and doesn't exactly have the best reputation around school compared to you." he answered as he shrugged his shoulders.
"You really think I'm that kind of person?" I said trying to hold back the tears I mean I'm not super sensitive or anything but that really hurt especially coming from Jack we were just starting to become good friends.
"I mean...yeah."
"Wow."
"What?"
"Nothing I think we should just hurry up and eat so you can take me home."
"I'm so-"
"Save it Jack it doesn't matter." I snapped cutting him off.
"Okay guys here's you're food. Do you need anything else?"
"Nope just the check." I said faking a smile.
"Alrighty then I'll have that right out." she said smiling back.
After we finished eating Jack paid for the food and we went to his jeep.
For the first ten minutes it was dead silent until Jack spoke.
"I didn't mean what I said back there at the diner."
"It's fine Jack." I answered.
"No it's not Ava I didn't mean it the way it came out and I could tell that it hurt you when I said it." He said turning to face me.
"How did you mean it then?" I asked in a monotone voice.
"I just meant that you were too good for me like you would deserve someone better than me."
"Like who?"
"Like Johnson, I'm not saying he likes you and that you should date or anything I'm just saying you should date someone like him because that's what you deserve."
"Well I'm not dating anyone anytime soon so no need to worry."
"Why? There are guys that would kill to date you."
"Correction Jack there are guys that would kill to get into my pants."
"Why can't you just take a compliment?" Jack asked grinning at my statement.
"I don't accept bullshit compliments Gilinsky." I said with a smirk on my face.
"It's true though." he replied letting out a chuckle.
"I'll believe that when it happens."
"So did you like your burger?"
"Yeah it was good I could have gone without the chocolate shake though."
"What was wrong with the chocolate shake?"
"Nothing."
"Then why didn't you want it?"
"I just wanted salad and a water but you insisted I get the burger and then to my surprise you ordered two chocolate shakes."
"What is up with you and food?" He asked furrowing his eyebrows as he concentrated on the road.
"Nothing I'm just super picky I guess I don't really like fattening foods." I replied as I shrugged my shoulders.
"Wow okay so you're a health freak." He said poking fun at me.
"Shut up Gilinsky." I said as I laughed a bit.
After a while of driving we finally pulled up to my house.
"So I'll see you tomorrow Nate's right?" Jack asked as I unbuckled my seatbelt.
"Umm yeah maybe."
"What do you mean maybe?"
"I just don't know if I'll feel like going anywhere tomorrow I might just stay home and chill."
"Come on if you don't go I'm showing up here."
"Why do you want me to go so bad?" I said with a slight chuckle.
"I don't know I like spending time with you." He said as his face turned a slight shade of red.
"Oh my is Jack Gilinsky blushing?" I said making fun of him for admitting he actually likes hanging out with someone other than Johnson.
"Shut up Ava just promise me you'll come tomorrow." he said slightly smiling not breaking eye contact with me.
"Fine I promise I'll be there." I promised as I got out his jeep.
"Goodbye Ava." he said with that stupid grin on his face.
"Goodbye Jack." I said as I shut the car door.
When I got in the house I ran upstairs and changed into and changed into my oversized night shirt so I could get some much needed rest because it has be a long day between school and the diner and I am just tired at this point. After I crawled into bed I laid there replaying today's events in my head as I drifted off into a deep peaceful sleep.
