Today is the day before my Choosing Ceremony. This means that we take our tests, The Aptitude Test. We would have a half day at school, so in the morning, we would still attend our normal lessons, and then after lunch, we would take the test. No one really knew what go on but I have heard rumours that it has something to do with creating a simulation within our minds, and therefore by the choices we make, we are assigned a faction. We don't have to go to the faction which the test assigns us to, we are given the free will to make the choice on what we believe the best faction will be for us. The test is purely for guidance purposes, so I am told.
At lunch, we sit at tables with the rest of our factions. I am sat at a table full of Abnegation grey. We are all waiting to be called into our tests. Talking about ourselves for longer than 30 seconds would be considered selfish, so we all sit there in silence where as all the other factions are doing something. Erudite are reading textbooks and talking about what they are reading. Dauntless are pulling pranks and telling jokes to each other. Amity seems to be playing some kind of game and they are all laughing. Then Candor seem to be debating something, it all seems friendly enough though. Luckily, I am in one of the first groups to be called. I enter a hallway which I have never seen before, I guess it is only used for the tests. I walk into room 5, I see a women dressed in black hunched over the computer. I can't help by think of my brother and sister. If I make the choice to transfer to Dauntless, I could see them again. "My name is Tori, I will be administering your test. Please take a seat." The Dauntless woman says standing up and pointing to the seat. I start to look around as I sit down, I realise that the room is surrounded by mirrors. It is odd, in Abnegation we are only allowed to look at ourselves in a mirror every three months and only for a very short amount of time. It is considered selfish to look at yourself in a mirror. Tori hands me a small glass cup with a liquid in which I guess will start a simulation. I know not to ask questions, as I know that they will not be answered. I drink the liquid and as I start to feel myself slowly drift off, Tori says something, but I cannot quite catch what she says.
(I am skipping the Actual Test because I didn't have any other ideas than what actually goes on in the test in the film and book. I leave it to you to make up your own assumptions about the test. I will give her a result though, or results)
I wake with a start and realize that I am no longer in the chair. Tori rushes me to the back door. "Tell your family that the serum made you sick and that I sent you how. Leave now, before my supervisor comes." Before he opens the door, I decide that I must speak.
"What were my results?" She continues to push me towards the back door until I stop.
"Okay, it was Abnegation, At least that is what I entered manually." I glared at Tori waiting for her to go on, "You also showed an Aptitude for Candor, Dauntless and Erudite" I look at Tori and glare at her further.
"What Four Factions? That is unheard of!" Tori answers by saying,
"Yes, it is, two is rare, three is even rarer, but your right, four is unheard of." I swallow loudly when she says that. "You cannot tell your family, friends or even your new faction. No one" As Tori says this she is staring at me. I nod.
"I know, I am Divergent, it is dangerous and people will try to kill me if they find out so I must keep it a secret from everyone but you." As I say this, I start to get nervous and Tori looks at me confused.
"So you knew?" Tori asks. I nod. "Then you understand how dangerous it is and how you are unable to tell anyone. Your result was Abnegation." I nod and then leave using the back door.
I walk home, thinking again. I run into a factionless female. She looks so much like my sister although I know that she was not her because she looked much older. I say "sorry" and then run home. I knew my father would not be here as he is hosting the ceremony tomorrow, he is going over and over what needs to be done in his office so, he will not be home until late. I know that when I wake up he will probably be gone too. That's why this morning we said bye, he thinks that he will see me after the Ceremony and that I will have stayed in Abnegation. I can assure you, that I am not.
I am Jamie Eaton. I am 16 years old and tomorrow is my Choosing Day. I will be leaving Abnegation, where to, I am unsure. My results were Divergent with all factions apart from Amity. My father is Marcus Eaton, Leader of Abnegation and the Government. The articles that Erudite publish about my father being abusive is true, although I always deny them. My brother and sister, Tobias and Susan Eaton, Left for Dauntless 5 years ago and I have not seen them since.
