I hear footsteps behind me. I turn to see that Eric has joined Four and Six. He walks past them and up to me. 'I see that you can shoot fine, therefore you don't need to be in this part of training. Come with me'. As Eric says this I look towards Four, he nods as if to say go with him, it will be fine. Eric walks to the other side of the roof and down the stairs into the training room. I did not even realise that I walked up to the roof in the first place for the gun range. He stops and I don't realise so I walk straight into the back of him. I quickly back up knowing that I will end up getting myself into even more trouble.
Eric just stands there and glares at me. 'Well, stiff, it does not seem that you have started too well.' Eric takes a step towards me, places a hand on my back and leads me out of the door. 'You already have a punishment which takes up most of your free time so I needed to think of another one.'
We are walking through different corridors and I do not recognise any of them, I haven't had a tour so I can't think where we will be going. 'This is the Chasm.' Eric tells me as we come to an abrupt stop. 'The chasm reminds us that there is a fine line between bravery and idiocy! A daredevil jump of this ledge will end your life. It has happened before and will happen again.' Eric says as he glares at me. I think that he is trying to use this as a scare tactic. Suddenly Eric pushes me over the chasm but keeps hold of one of my hands.
'Grab the rail' Eric shouts. I do knowing that I don't want to piss him off anymore. I see how steep all the ledges are and I can feel the splashes of the water hitting my legs. 'If you can hang there for 5 minutes, I will forget this morning, if not, you can either fall to your death or become factionless.' I look up at him and he is just smiling. What sort of insane person can get any pleasure out of having someone nearing death. I am determined to prove him how I belong in dauntless. I hear other footsteps and Eric obviously does too. He looks down the corridor in the direction they are coming from and suddenly quickly helps me up to stand next to him. I notice and see that it is my sister, Su.
'What are you doing here with a initiate?' Su questions Eric while giving him a evil look. 'Nothing, she missed the tour yesterday so I am giving her one know, she was in training but she was excelling in shooting so I thought we could use the time more wisely.' I look at Eric as he is lying through his teeth. Su nods and looks at me. She is giving me a questioning look as if to say that she does not trust what Eric is saying. 'Is that true, Jamie?' She questions me. I look to Eric and look back to Su. I nod. 'Yes it was, we stopped when we heard footsteps, we thought it might have been Four or Six saying that I needed to go back.' She looks at me as if she can tell I am lying. I lie all the time, especially to her when we were little, she never used to know but in the year before she left, she always knew if I was not telling the truth. 'Ok then, I'll let you get back to it. See you in the meeting later Eric, Bye Jamie.'
Eric turns around and waits till she is out of sight. He turns to look at me and I smile at him. 'What?' he asks. My smile gets bigger. 'You only hung for 4 minutes, you still have another minute.' I turn and ran down the corridor where Su went down but Eric stops me. 'Where do you think that you are going?'. I smile.
'If you make me hang there again, I will go and tell Su!' I reply to him. HE glares at me and smirks. 'Why will she care, your just a initiate and you are getting a punishment.' I look at him and roll my eyes. 'So, why didn't you tell her the truth then.' I ask questioning him. He looks down the corridor and back at me. 'Okay then, you did your time, your behaviour this morning is forgotten. You never speak of this. Now get back to training.' I don't move. He glares at me and I can tell that he is wondering why I have not moved yet.
'Go on then, go' he shouts. 'No' I reply. 'You told Su that you were giving me a tour, I want my tour please.' I give Eric a evil smile. 'Or I guess I can always tell Su what we were really doing here.' Eric grunts ' you really piss me off.' I laugh. Eric starts to walk off so I follow, he takes me on the tour, we don't really stop anywhere but he points everything out, the pit, the cafeteria, the dorms, the chasm and we end back at the training room just as everyone is about to leave. I hear four speak up 'Alright, shooting is over for today, after lunch we will teach you the basic combat moves which you will then put into action tomorrow in your first round of fights. You need to be back here in a hour. You are free to go.'
Six stops me from leaving and says that we need to talk before I go. Eric leaves and says that he will be back at 6 pm to pick me up for my punishment. Six and I walk over to Four. 'You missed it this morning with the rules, training is from 8 am to 6 pm with a hour lunch break. You also not to leave the compound unless you are with another Dauntless. Understand?' I nod. Six also adds 'I know you are there sister, but that does not mean that we will accept anything other than what is expected of all the other initiates. You got that?' 'Yeah I understand, Does Eric know?' I turn to four as that question was directed at him. 'I don't think so, it will not take him long to make the connection though. Why?'
I turn and walk away. 'No reason' I shout as I walk out of the door.
