Furious would be an understatement to describe what River was feeling at that moment.
Rage was boiling inside of him, his fists clenched, his jaw tight and the cold glare he was casting at Colette not faltering even a single bit.
She was in big, big trouble.
And she knew it.
"What?" River repeated, his tone coated with anger. "What did you say?"
"I......I......I........I-I...I...."
"He kissed you? " He spoke with such vehemence that Colette flinched at just his words.
"I can explain-"
"Yeah, you better!" He yelled and Colette jumped, taking a few steps backwards. "Why the fuck did he kiss you?!"
"River, it's not what you think. He didn't mean to do it, he just-"
"Bullshit! Absolute bullshit! He wants to sabotage my life, can't you see?!"
"River, I promise you that's not true. We talked-"
"Listen, Colette," He was shaking with rage, his words stone cold, "I don't care what the fuck you talked about, and I don't fucking care about the lies he fed you, okay? You know how much I hate that bastard and yet, and still fucking yet, you had a whole ass conversation with him for what? FOR WHAT?!"
Tears pricked Colette's eyes. "He feels guilty. He feels bad for everything he did to you-"
"BULLSHIT! BULL-FUCKING-SHIT!"
"River, if you'd just listen-"
"No! No, you listen to me, okay? That guy? He ruined my life. HE FUCKING RUINED MY LIFE, OKAY?! And if he really felt bad, or guilty or whatever the fuck you claim, he would've never kissed you. NEVER!"
Teardrops had begun falling from her eyes.
The moment the argument started, Niki fled to her room. She couldn't be there, in the middle of their fight, but she could hear every single word from her room. And she hated it.
"Why didn't you tell me?" His voice was hoarse and low, but the fury in it strong as ever, "Why didn't you tell me he kissed you?"
Colette sniffed, blinking back her tears. "I thought that maybe you guys had a chance to mend your relationship and telling you would ruin that chance.........."
River chuckled humorlessly, ominously, walking over to her. "I'm gonna say this once. Stop trying to fix my life or my relationships. I told you about my family so you could know me better, not so you could get involved with them and fuck my life up, got it?"
Colette nodded weakly, staring at the ground, tears spilling out of her eyes.
He glared at her one last time and strode out of the house, banging the door close.
The moment he left, Niki rushed out of her room, to Colette. She immediately wrapped her arms around Colette who fell to her knees, sobbing into Niki's shoulder. Niki gently stroked her hair, trying to calm her but Colette didn't seem to stop. She was crying hysterically, her entire body shaking as she tried to regain her breath.
"I'm here, Coco, I'm here."
It took nearly half an hour for Colette to stop crying. She was still in Niki's arms, her eyes stained red, her cheeks heavily flushed, the tip of her nose red like a cherry and her lips cracked. She had cried her pain out but for some reason, her heart still didn't feel at ease, the weight in her chest still present.
"Niki," She tried to say, but nothing came out. Clearing her throat, she tried once more. "Niki?"
"Yeah?"
