Waking Up

I woke up in a dark place. It was cold. I sat up and tried to figure out where I am. Suddenly, the lights turned on. It was blinding. "Ow," I said as I covered my eyes. "Hello, Emberly. " A tall man with red hair said handing me a piece of paper. I looked at it. Happy Hotel in Hell. Ask for Pierre. I put it in my pocket. "Go there. Pierre will be your trainer. She will show you the ropes on being a reaper. " He said. I nodded and turned to leave. "Wait. " He says stopping me. "Yes?" I asked. She tosses me a scythe. It looks like a pickaxe. "You will get a new death scythe upon graduation," He explained. "Thanks. I'll go find Pierre." I told him as left. I traveled to Hell and searched for the Happy Hotel. 'This place looks like shit. ' I thought to myself. I finally found the place. I knocked on the door. A few seconds later a girl who looks like she is either pissed off or annoyed answers. "Hello?" She says. I smiled at her ."Hello, I was told to come here from the clinic to be a shadow for training by one named..." I checked my note to make sure I got the name right. " Pierre." The brown-haired girl closed the door in my face. I was about to leave when the door opened again. "Did Red send you?" She asked. 'Oh boy, she really doesn't like me already and it's only been a minute. ' I thought as I nodded to answer her question.

She opened the door motioning for me to come in. I looked around as I entered. There was a bar to the right and a living space on the left. There were two people sitting on the couch. I didn't know what to do so I just stood there. After a few minutes, a tall man came in. He was asking how Pierre was. She informed him of me. His name seemed to be Drax. He turned to me and coldly said. "State your name child." I held back my anger as I hated being called a child. "Emberly sir," I answer. "You are a recruit? " I nod. Drax sighs turning back to Pierre. "Red should have asked if Pierre was well enough to take on a recruit. But it's done now. You start tomorrow. " He said. 'He is very grumpy ' I thought. I decided to sit in a chair next to the fireplace in the living room. The two people sitting next to each other looked over at me. The girl with green hair smiled at me while the man with red hair glared at me. The green-haired girl stood up and came over to me and offered her hand for a handshake. I shook her hand. "Greetings darling. My name is Prue. This here is Dean. May I ask who you are?" She asked. She talks like someone in the old days. She seems nice. I smiled at her. "Emberly Arlene. I'm a recruit. " I told her. She looked confused. "A recruit for what dearie?" "Oh sorry. I'm a reaper in training." I explained. Prue smiled. "Your quite young to be a reaper, my dear." I glared at her. She took notice and sat across from me. "Apologies dearie. I meant no trouble," she said. "If it's ok to ask what kind of demons are you and Dean?" I asked. Prue glanced at Dean for a moment before returning her gaze to me. "Well, I am what one would call a hybrid. I am not a demon but not human either. I am the timekeeper of Hell, Heaven, and Earth. I am also jinn. Now a jinn is like a genie. Except we are not bound to a lamp or master. Now, unfortunately, wishes are obsolete for reapers." She explained. Dean smiled. " I'm a succubus. Need I say more?" He said coldly.

Prue smacked his arm." Dear quit being rude to our new friend. " She scolded him. 'I hate demons.' I plastered on a fake smile as usual. "So what's this hotel? It looks like a rehab place. " I asked her. She smiled. "It's a place to redeem sinners and get them into heaven. " She answered. I stared at her for a moment before bursting with laughter. "Hahaha! I'm sorry what?! That's impossible." I said through my laughing. Pierre came over and sat on the couch across from me. "We have a lot to cover tomorrow. We have three months of training so you HAVE to stay with me while we are out ok?" She said sounding annoyed. I nodded. "Did Red give you a training scythe?" She asked. I reached in my duffel bag and pulled it out. "Not what I expected," I said. "Stop complaining. You get one upon graduation based on your strong features. Now you can have it modified but it can take months. And it has to be approved by one of the Sins." She told me. "They are real? Cool!" I said excitedly. "Yes. All seven of them. After our job is done tomorrow I'll tame you to meet Adrian." She said. "Is Adrian one?" I asked. She nodded. "Ok, that sounds fun," I said excitedly.

Pierre took out a book and tosses it to me. I caught it with ease and flipped through. "That's the Death List. We never kill off it. There are consequences if you break the rules. " Pierre explained. I nodded. "Get some rest. Big day tomorrow. We have seventy-six souls to reap. Oh and as reapers, we do need to sleep and eat to survive, but there will come a time when you will have to choose between them. " She explains further. "Is there any way I can get a room here? I don't really have a place with just waking up and all." I asked. Prue jumped up and motioned for me to follow. She led me down a long hall filled with painting. They looked like they are related. They are nice looking for demons.' I thought to myself. Prue stopped and turned to face me. "Here we are darling. Room 104. You may decorate it how you please. The picture show in the living space is free to use as you desire. When Charlie comes to check on things....." I spaced out not hearing the rest. When she was done I snapped back to the present. "Well, I suppose I should get sleep. First day of training tomorrow. I'm excited and terrified at the same time. " I said standing up. "I'm sure you will do rather well dear." She said with a smile. 'So nice. I thought as I waved to Prue and Dean before turning in for the night.
