Tom and the reader

It was a night like any other in England. Rain as far as the eye could see with no sign of stopping any time soon. Doors were shut and windows were closed, but nobody could escape the cold draft through the air that sent shivers down your spine and caused you to seek warmth on this cold day. It was silent in the house other than the pitter patter of the water hitting the roof. You knew everyone was asleep, well at least Edd and Matt were. Tom was another story. You honestly didn't think he slept. Every night when you needed to use the bathroom or get a cup of water, he always poked his head out to check on you.

That was beyond the point though. You shivered under your blankets trying to ignore the pounding in your head. You always liked rain, but tonight it seemed overwhelming and annoying. Why exactly? You didn't know. Something in your chest tightened up as a headache played out in your head. Maybe some pain killers would make it better. You flung yourself out of the bed, feet hitting the ground with a 'thwap' noise. The cold wooden floor made you shiver slightly. You clicked your tounge at the creaking of the floorboards. Grabbing the handle to the door, you quietly exited your room.

You lazily made your way down the hallway and heard faint footsteps from Tom's room. You looked at the door as it creaked open to reveal the boy's head. "(Y/N) what are you doing still up? Its about 1:00 in the morning." He questioned. "I can't sleep.." you mumbled. He released a small 'mmm' in understanding. "Do you have some Ibuprofen or something? My head hurts..." you groaned. "Not in my room, but I think there's some in the kitchen. Here, I'll go find it for you. You nodded, watching him slunk out of his room. You followed him into the kitchen and grabbed a plastic cup to fill with water as you heard him rustling through the cabinet. "You're lucky tomorrow is the weekend. I dont think Edd would be too happy you stayed up this late." You just took a sip of water with a gentle, "yeah."

"Aha! Found it. Here you go, kiddo." He said, handing you a bottle of pain killers. You shook a few pills out and handed it back to him as you popped them in your mouth and took a swig of water, briskly swallowing. "You okay?" He inquired. "Yeah..I guess..." He gave your shoulder a brief squeeze as he made his way back to his room. "...Hey Tom?" You spoke, making him turn his head towards you. "Hmm?" You put the glass of water down, and fumbled with your shirt. "Can I uh, sleep in your room tonight?" You mumbled. "Sure, (Y/N)."

You nodded a bit and smiled, walking back to his room. He followed behind you closely. You made it to his room and waited for him at the door. "Watch out for Susan, I still need to put her away." He said, stepping in front of you and grabbing the old bass. "Are you ever going to actually repair her? Bandages and duct tape only work so well..." you chuckled, flopping on his bed. You grabbed the large hoodie underneath you and put it on to get some warmth. "Maybe. I need to scrounge up some serious money, repairing the neck is expensive. Maybe I'll just hot glue her together. Hopefully that wont bend the wood too much." You looked at him confused, "bend the wood?" He chuckled and sat next to you.

"Think of it like a shoelace. When you pull on both sides it makes a tight straight line, and harder to move, right?" He inquired loosely. You just mouthed a "mhm." He nodded and continued, "But if you bring one side close to the other it becomes loose and slack." You interrupted him briefly "What does any of this have to do with the wood on your bass?" He ruffled your hair. "I was getting to that you little heathen." You chuckled, "Sorry, sorry." "Wood is like that shoelace. When exposed to the cold, it becomes stiff and hard to move, but when its exposed to heat, like the hot glue per say, it becomes loose and can bend, leading to the neck to be deformed or cracked." He explained. "Man, if I wanted a science lesson, I would've just grabbed my textbook." You groaned, playfully. He shrugged, "Well, you asked and I awnsered." The room fell silent.

"Hey...are you mad at me?" You asked. He looked at you. "Mad at you, why?" You shrugged. "I dont know. Me asking to sleep in your room? I know I'm not 5 anymore..." You said, scratching your shoulder. He leaned back on his bed and pulled on your hood to drag you with him. You two stared at the ceiling. "Why would I be mad at you about that? If it gets you to sleep, then so be it. Weather it's my room, Matt's room, or Edd's room, if you need to sleep with us, that's fine. We can hold a whole slumber party in the living room like we did when you were younger." He chuckled a bit. "You used to beat the hell outta Matt with those pillows." He continued. You laughed a bit, too. "Learned it from the best." You replied, nudging his forearm. "Just dont learn a drinking habit, kiddo." He snorted.

"I don't think Edd would let me even if I tried. Good ol' momma Edd for ya, there." You laughed. "What do you think he'll do once I move out?" You asked. "God knows hed cry about it for the next 2 weeks and call you daily to make sure you're alright." He retorted. "You dont think Matt would cry more?" You inquired. "Eh, he'll cry for a bit and then get distracted by his own reflection." He answered. "Hah, you got me there." He scooted up so his head hit a pillow. "You should probably go to bed. Edd would kill me if I kept you up all night." You nodded and layed beside him. The rain became apparent again as the room became silent. You smiled, the rain wasn't as annoying as it once was earlier that night.
