FOUR BOYS, ONE GIRL AND 1 CRAZY HIGH SCHOOL YEAR
CHAPTER 35
This chapter is dedicated to @beautlies [I love you Sevval. Just as much as I love Blake Whitethorn :)]
I found myself on the streets of New York yet lingering near the hospital. Suffice to say, I was an idiot. I shouldn't have left, I should've stayed. I shouldn't have left like some cowardice... but I still did. I let out a sigh and bit my lip as I stared into the clear blue skies—squinting a little from the harsh light.
"Um... Callie?" I heard someone call from behind me.
I looked back to see a friendly looking nurse staring back unsurely at me. "Yes, that's me."
She smiled in relief and stared down at the notepad in her hand. "You're needed in room 476."
I gulped. "Uh, why?"
The woman frowned slightly. "I supposed you were related... I mean the boy there seemed really desperate when he asked to call for you..."
Oh Easy. "Um, okay, thanks."
I couldn't have been able to run faster than I was right now. Unfortunately, the stupid elevator just had to pick the time to screw up and be the slowest thing ever—which resulted in me taking the steps two-by-two. And let me tell you, taking stairs to a room on the fourth floor, isn't the healthiest thing.
I was panting heavily by the time I stood in front of the familiar dark wood door. I took deep breaths and pushed the handle—not even bothering to think about what was happening on the other end. I wasn't going to chicken out and run away again.
Surprisingly – and to my benefit – Easy had taken on a great yet very strange wave of calm. He was sitting beside Josie, his hands placed atop her forehead. The only thing you could her was the beeping of the thousand and one machines beside her.
I swallowed and walked slowly towards him, deciding not to talk in case I said something that angered him.
"Hey," I whispered and sat down beside him.
His dark eyes flitted to me before he glanced back at Josie. "Hey."
Okay. "So, um, the nurse said you called for me."
"Yeah." He said with a shrug. "Where'd you go?"
I ran away like a fucking chicken. "I... um, went for um, some fresh air." Fresh air? Fucking fresh air Callie? Somebody was dying here!
Easy must have been thinking the same thing but decided not to say anything because he raised a brow at me and folded his arms across his chest. "The doctor said Josie's been out for a couple of days now. He said she'd be fine though, she's been responding – you know those little things people do in comas..." he trailed off and I nodded in understanding.
"... anyway, he said since she's responding pretty well she should be up in a few hours or a day tops. He wasn't really sure; it's not like doctors predict these things"
I gave him a small smile. "That's good to hear."
"It is. I was... um, I was going to call –" he cleared his throat and kept his expression impassive. "I was going to call my dad and I was wondering if you could... maybe stay with Josie for a while...?"
I gave him an assuring smile. "Okay,"
He stood up from the chair and nodded at me before walking to the door. Taking his place, I looked at his retreating back before I bit my lip and called, "Hey, Easy?"
