"I think you're very brave."
"Brave?" Never had he received such a compliment. Coming from the man before him, it meant the world.
—
"I missed you."
"I promised I'd return. I never break a promise." Dorian smiled the widest he had in months. Each day apart had chipped away at his heartstrings.
The Inquisitor hummed. "A good point." He kissed him. It was sweet and gentle, just like the glistening brown hair that his fingers ran through. Their noses touched. Both had missed the feeling more than anything.
They were standing beneath a tree, closed off from the rest of the world. Pink petals fluttered to the ground beneath them. They were beautiful, meaningful. The tips of the long grass curled around the already fallen blossoms, welcoming them back into the earth. The roots of the tree were buried deep beneath the soil and none dared surface atop the hill. The rock walls surrounded it, protecting it from the dangers of man and weather alike. The bubbling of a small waterfall echoed throughout the area, giving off a relaxing aura.
The Inquisitor loved water, the sounds, the smell. The rise and fall of the tide fascinated him. However, his Tevinter lover felt differently. Any notion of water was discomforting, but he could appreciate the crashing falls from a distance.
He locked his knee around the back of Dorian's, knocking him into the bottom of the tree.
He chuckled, looking up to stare into the deep red eyes before him. Like pools of wine, a bed of roses.
"There wasn't a moment I didn't think of you." He crawled on top of The Tevinter, placing soft kisses all over his face.
"I wasn't gone for that long." Thin lips curled upwards into a proud smirk. Never did he think he was capable of earning the heart, soul, and body of such a beautiful man.
"It felt like a lifetime."
Dorian had no need to respond with words. He cupped the man's cheek with his palm, kissing him with all of the suppressed passion from over the lonely months.
—
The Inquisitor awoke due to the blinding light emitting from his chest. The gem Dorian had given him shone like a lit beacon. He grumbled and sat up, activating the sending crystal with two careful fingers.
"That was the most pleasant dream I've had in a long time." Dorian's velvety voice was one of the things he had missed most, even though he had just he heard it contorted in a dream.
"Hm. You had it too?" He asked sleepily.
Bags beneath Dorian's eyes weighed heavily. His hair looked a mess and his mustache was ludicrously spread about, but to no surprise, his appearance was appealing. "I love you." He hummed, leaning back into a red pillow. The part of the bed frame that was visible was a colorful mahogany.
"And I love you." He said with a grin.
"I'll be in your arms soon, Amatus. I promise. I'll never leave your side again."
"A lifetime..." There was deep meaning behind his words. Sentiment they shared long ago. They agreed to last a lifetime. They promised to last a lifetime.
"A lifetime."
