Naka waited tiredly at the front gate, he did not like waking up at 4 in the morning but for some reason, Uzu thought it would be a good idea to change his alarm.
Akiko was already there, reading on her phone and ignoring Naka's tired yawns. "If you fall asleep during this, I don't know you."
"It's not my fault! Uzu changed my alarm!"
"He wouldn't be able to do that if you didn't share your password with him."
"...Shut up..."
Putting her phone away, Akiko pushed herself off the gate she was leaning on. "We should go in."
"Aren't we going to wait for Uzu?"
"You can but you'll be late. Don't worry, he'll show up, he always does."
With a hesitant nod, the two left got registered and sat in the auditorium just in time for Present Mic's speech.
He explained how the exams are going to work and about the different robots.
It was a little disappointing for our heroes to know that they wouldn't be able to help each other but they know it will be fine.
Before Present Mic could finish he was interrupted by a teen with navy blue hair. "Excuse me but on this hand out four robots are depicted not three. This is not a mistake I would expect from such a high standard school and is disgraceful. And you," the teen turned to point at a green-haired boy in the crowd, "stop muttering. You are distracting those around you!"
"Well, that was rude," Naka whispered to Akiko.
"Yeah, I wonder where he came crawling from."
Present Mic didn't get a chance to get the hall under control before a scream came from above. "Gain way, student coming through!" Uzu crashed through the ceiling and went spiralling to the floor.
"Uzu!" Reaching out her fingers, Akiko spent out her vines, just getting to Uzu in time to stop him from becoming human Pizza.
Uzu got rid of his battered wings before jumping on top of the vines and walked to his seat by Naka.
"Way to make an entrance, Uzu," Naka teased with a smirk.
"That wasn't my fault, the bus was late," Uzu defended himself.
"Why didn't you just catch the train like a normal person?"
"Aki, you literally have a hedge attached to your fingertips, what do you know about being normal?"
"Rude." Akiko flicked her wrist and the vine detached themselves, collapsing on the floor.
A long silence followed after the three had finished their conversation. Eventually, Akiko realised and spoke up, "please continue Present Mic."
Present Mic attempted to continue but it was pretty hard to do when most of the audience wasn't focused on him.
After all the details had been given out, the students had to take a theoretical exam.
Neither Uzu nor Naka had studied for it- much to Akiko's displeasure- but neither left any questions blank so that was good.
By the point it was time for the practical, they were split up. Uzu found himself with the greenette and bleuette from earlier but chose to ignore them.
When the buzzer went off, he ran forward and punched the first robot he saw. He made it fall back and crash into one behind it, gaining himself 5 points.
He smirked when he saw a cloud of smoke rose in the background, most likely meaning Naka was getting his points.
Uzu continued his hand to metal fighting style, tripping up the metal lugs and flying around for fun.
Naka's efforts were a lot more... chaotic. He created clones of himself that tackled the robots and blew them up. Of course, he had a limit and if he wasn't careful, he would just be hit off to the side.
Akiko, unlike her friends, was a lot more organised. Strategically taking down the robots she could with her vines.
When the zero pointer came out every one of the students reacted differently. Ranging from Naka's 'ah, that's why it's the zero pointers. That thing is massive,' to Akiko's 'how did this school get the budget for that?' And of course, Uzu's 'I wonder what would happen if I punched it.'
Akiko wasn't one to take on something so out of her league and spun around, whispering "nope, not today," under her breath.
Naka had a similar thought process of 'I have only one clone left, it can't take that on so I am not.' But once he had turned around he didn't get far before hearing a small plea for help. "Damn it brain, couldn't you be smart for once," he shouted as he grabbed the teen about to be squashed and rolled to the side. "I take it back brain, that was pretty cool."
While this was going on, Uzu was mentally debating the consequences of punching the zero pointer. On one hand, it would be fun but on the other hand, Akiko would kill him. But... Akiko doesn't need to know so there is no downside. "I'm going to punch it," Uzu decided.
However, before he could, someone beat him to it. The green-haired teen from earlier obliterated the robot's head and his arm. He started the long fall to the ground when he was slapped by the girl he was trying to save.
The final buzzer went off and Uzu silently crept over to the pile of metal, punching it with his tail. "She will never know."
Across the school, Akiko straightened up and shivered. "Uzu is doing something he shouldn't be."
Naka walked his newly acquired friend to the gate where Akiko was already waiting.
"Yeah man, you were so cool! Super manly!" The teen Naka saved- Kirishima- was more than excited to see the results after today's display of talent. "Oh, there are the guys, see ya at orientation!"
Kirishima ran over to a girl with pink skin and a guy with yellow hair, Naka joining Akiko as they waited for Uzu who thankfully showed up quickly.
Now, all that was left was to wait to get their results. Naka got in fifth place, white Akiko found herself fifteenth and Uzu squeezed in eighteenth out of twenty, claiming quite loudly that he still got in and would beat the others when they weren't up against evil robots.
