The events that had unfolded in the past 15 minutes seemed to have sobered up Carter quite a bit. "Where are we going?" He asked slowly.

"Honestly, right now I have no idea," I replied, shaking my head. "I just wanted to get us the hell away from Big Ed." I was still in shock. Poor Sadie, how did such a sweet southern belle end up with such a greasy ogre like him? She sacrificed herself to help Carter and me escape her husband before he could hurt us both. My fingers were wrapped around the steering wheel so tightly, my knuckles were white. It was the only thing I could to to stop myself from shaking so much.

Carter rubbed his eyes before he pulled out a map and clicked on the light inside the car. He mumbled a few words in latin that I couldn't make out and waved his hand over the map. I saw a glow from the corner of my eye and glanced over at the glossy page. A line on the map had started to encompass its way around a small area off to one of the corners.

Carter furrowed his brow as he studied the map and looked up, searching either side of the dark tree lined road. The branches canopied over the roadway creating an arch, giving the journey an eerie feeling. "Do you know what road were on?" He asked me.

I hadn't even been paying attention. I didn't remember what road the motel was on, I didn't even remember the direction I had speed off  in out of the parking lot. The nights events were replaying in my head over and over. Eds hot breath on my neck, the greasiness of his hands, the sinking feeling in my stomach when he locked me in the supply closet to save me for later. I shuddered again, feeling the bile rise in my stomach. "No, sorry," I sighed. "I wasn't looking where I was going. Are we looking for anywhere specific?"

"It looks like it's somewhere in here." He poked at the golden spot on the map. "Prince William Forest Park. The location of the entrance changes all the time, it could be anywhere in there. Once we figure out what road this is I should be able to get us there."

"So how do we find the entrance once we get there?" I asked.

"That's a little more difficult." He replied. "The entrance to the consulate is somewhere in a place called The Caverns, which is usually well concealed. Finding the door to the consulate will be more difficult than finding the Caverns though. All the doors' locations change, the whole tunnel system really.

"Doors?"

"The Caverns lead everywhere in the world. There's hundreds, maybe even thousands. Sometimes that includes the Underworld and even other dimensions. Usually guardians protect those doors, and they can be pretty nasty."

"Great. This should be fun." I sighed.

After what seemed like at least half an hour of driving, a black and white sign with a large 22 on it came into view. It also said we were headed north. Carter quickly looked back down at the map, tracing a finger over different roads and highways looking for the one we were on. "Ok, you're gonna make the next right." He hummed to himself a little more as he navigated his finger across the page. "We should be there in less than 2 hours.

Carter let me know when to turn, and just as we were coming up on an hour and a half, I saw a brown road sign with the name of the park on it. "Here, take this next exit." Carter pointed to the next green sign that indicated the next exit was coming up in a half mile. I did, and it wasn't long before we were met with the large wooden sign that read "Now entering Prince William Forest Park".

"There's probably a visitors center nearby, turn in here."

I turned onto the road behind the sign, and sure enough a large cabin came into view. I shut off my headlights and parked the car behind a small group of trees, hoping that it would hide the car well enough that no one would notice it, at least for the night.
