By the time August finished out I was able to remember everything. Names, dates, events, the time Amy and I kissed (which is something that won't be repeated to anyone), right down to the video games I had.
Well...everything up until two years ago. Dr. Morrison had done a routine checkup and said it usually happened when there was some amount of damage to the hippocampus.
"...What?" I felt stupid.
"It's the place where your memories are stored. Basically damage to it can cause you to lose memories." He explained dumbing it down for me.
"Oh..." I had no idea what to say. I was basically being forced to accept the fact that I had to lose two whole years of my life. Great.
Thankfully by the time school rolled around I was able to be in regular classes. Apparently being in honors classes throughout junior high and high school you somewhere. I had been in AP classes all through freshman and sophomore year.
"This is great!" said Amy when her Jack and I were all hanging out the week before school started. We were looking at each other's schedules which were said to have been printed August 15th but here it is September 5th and school starts in 4 days.
"We're going to be in the same classes again. Unlike the last two years mister smart ass." Said Jack, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Oh shut the fuck up." I laughed. And then Jack and Amy joined in.
After a little while of laughing I opened my mouth to say something, but decided against it and snapped it shut.
"What?" said Amy. I didn't know how, but she just knew when there was something on your mind.
"It's just...well..." I couldn't form the words. Tears were already in my eyes.
I clenched my fists. "I just don't know what I would do if I had forgotten you guys. I love you. Both of you."
"Awe, hun." Amy hugged me tightly. "We love you too." Jack fist pounded me and ruffled my hair.
We hung out the rest of the day, doing usual teenage nothingness. We watched a few movies, ate food, and took a dip in the pool before my dad had to close it for fall.
The rest of the week passed and Monday rolled around. You'll never guess who I could have seen. She strolled by with a big cup in her hand. I was at my locker swapping out books to go from my third period of English to chemistry.
That's when I felt an ice cold waterfall down my back as water was dumped on my head.
I turned around in time to see her strut up the hallway. "Thanks bitch!" I said.
She stopped short. "You're welcome. I figured I'd give you a present since you broke up with me and all."
"I don't quite remember saying I broke up with you..." Her mouth opened in shock. "But I guess you did that for yourself." Then her jaw shut with a snap and the color in her face drained.
I walked toward her and brushed past her on the way to chemistry, ignoring the large ring of students that had gathered around us.
The days flew by, and before I knew it, it was Friday. I was up in my room finishing the last bit of my homework when my mother called me down.
