they/them
they hated this.
the constant stares and whispers as they walked down the halls in their new school. having to transfer during their 3rd year in high school was not the most appealing thing ever, but it was necessary now.
there was nothing for them at this school. they had to leave it all. their scholarship, their dorm, their friends, all left behind after they were suspended from the prestigious academy that refused to even allow pupils to dye their hair.
terrified students sneak glance at the student as they walk down the halls, attempting to hold their head high but it is impossible to do so when the judgment is weighing them down. their (e/c)-eyes were now dull and lifeless, adding to the terror of others who mistook this for a scary look, rather than realising this is the face of someone who lost everything to protect the ones they loved.
stepping into the class the teacher made a very quick and short introduction to them. there was no point getting to know new people when they would only be here for a few months anyway.
it was the same schedule for a few weeks. walking to school alone, eating alone, working alone, walking home alone. three weeks at this new school and the stares had not changed.
it was another normal day as they walked out of school, though it was later than usual as the teacher made them do extra work after school for falling asleep in class. the moon was the only light, illuminating their features and adding a sense of new youthfulness to their (e/c)-eyes.
walking towards past the school gate, the sound of laughter and shouting fills the air, causing them to glance upwards to the shop down the street at a group of boys, all passing around a paper bag filled with pork buns. the group then walk away, unaware of the person close behind them.
they see that one of the members had dropped a folder onto the rocky path and quickly picked it up.
"um excuse me?"
the group turn around to see the figure behind them, shakily holding onto a familiar folder. this is the most they've spoken in weeks and it's only a couple of words.
recognising the person as the new delinquent, everyone in the team jumps backwards, unable to take their eyes off of them. they had all heard the rumours. some say that they murdered a passer bye because they looked at them the wrong way. some say they sent a whole gang to the hospital. some even say they are part of the japanese mafia. all in all, it's now common knowledge to avoid them at all costs yet here they were right in front of them. it wasn't until the captain spoke up, that they all snapped out of their daze.
"hello? can we help you?"
"o-oh um... one of you seemed to have dropped this."
"huh? oh, thats asahi's."
'asahi' sweatdropped. he looked like he was going to have a heart attack. for such an intimidating guy, he was scared of pretty much everything and having the one from school everyone had been warned about talking to him was definitely not helping.
"t-that's m... mine."
he steps forward and quickly grabs the folder from their hands before scurrying back to the group and attempting to hide behind a much shorter male.
"i'll... just be going now i guess."
they speed walk past the group, knowing completely why everyone was scared of them and the taller one was so nervous.
"you're not as bad as people think, huh?"
their (e/c) eyes go wide and they pivot on their feet to see someone with grey hair smiling at them.
"yeah. i'm not really."
this sparked the curiosity of the small ginger who also stepped forward.
"why do they say all that stuff about you then?"
could they really tell these people why they are here? would they even believe them? i mean would hurt to try? it might even lessen the rumours if a few people knew the truth at least.
"my best friend was always bullied a lot and i would stand up for him... i never really got it though. yeah, he was eccentric and strange but he didn't deserve any of that. one day i noticed a group of boys being much more physical than the others. my friend was never the stronger either and i mean yeah... he was on the volleyball team but he spent most of his time ditching practices to read shounen jump with me in his dorm. i went up to the guys and it started getting worse so i... i p-punched one of them in the nose... i actually managed to break it too so i got expelled. i know i shouldn't have done that really but i was just helping my friend..."
realising no one was saying anything, they kept their gaze to the floor, too afraid to look up and reveal their watery eyes to the group they just opened up to.
a boy with long brown hair steps forward, much more confident than before yet he still fiddles with his fingers slightly.
"i get judged too... for how i look..."
finally bringing their eyes up they come eye to eye with the person they handed the folder to.
"most people think i'm scary because of the way i look, but i'm not at all- if anything i'm the scared one... i can't really help the way i look and you shouldn't be embarrassed about helping your friend because i'm sure that they appreciate it. j-just try and look at the positives y-yeah? n-not that i'm telling you what to do i uh..."
"thanks uh...?"
"o-oh a-azumane asahi..."
"well, thank you, azumane-san. thankyou all for listening to me."
they go to turn back around until they hear the same person call back out to them.
they turn back around and their eyes meet with his brown ones, now staring much more confidently into theirs.
"if you ever feel lonely come to our practices before and after school. you'll always be welcome with us."
they could have cried right then.
a place to go where they didn't have to feel so nervous and judged constantly
"thank you azumane-san... really."
turning back around a small smile could be seen on their face.
