he was always so carefree.
they admired that.
the ability to close off all of those around you and focus on the now was not one of those talents they had been graced with. that's why now, as they watched him run into the rain during the early hours, jumping around in the puddles and attempting to catch raindrops in his mouth that they now realise just how much he means to them.
the constant love and attention he gives while they try to bottle everything up, trying to keep those closest to them to stop worrying about her deteriorating mental state. their constant fear and insecurities. they cry to sleep almost every night. he is always there.
maybe that's why when he asked as soon as they woke up this morning, they agreed to let him drag them outside into the rain. now they just stand and watched the man they love act like a large child. so carefree. maybe that's why now they let him drag them by the hands into the biggest puddle he could find and jumps up and down with her breaking out into his favourite cheesy love songs he heard on the radio, getting every second word wrong. maybe that's why they place gentle, loving kisses all over his face as he whines about his now droopy hair.
maybe that's why they know, this is the man they will spend the rest of their life with.
