it was freezing.

the first week of college had gone by in a breeze, similar to the one causing her locks of (h/c) hair to fly in all directions. it was fast yet quiet. almost unnoticeable and forgetful.

college was everything she thought it'd be really. the teachers were more relaxed than they were in high school. the work was more challenging though. time management was hard. making new friends was a struggle at the start.

she did make some new friends, yet of course, it was difficult to leave her old ones from high school. leaving behind all of the faces she had spent three years with for new, more mature ones was a big change but a necessary one.

the orange glow of the rising sun enters the windows of the café she finds herself sitting at the familiar table with one of her new friends. a few rays of the sun bounce off various things in the café such as cups and plates, blinding those around them.

"hey, how have you been sleeping (y/n)?"

"not too good. just stressed out with all the new work and stuff. i still don't know the area too well either."

"i'm sure you'll be fine eventually! i'm still getting used to the work too but the café, shops, school, and dorms are the only places you need right?"

kinoshita grins at his friend sitting across from him while still typing away at his computer positioned on the table next to his chocolate cake and tea.

"yeah, i guess you're right. i have a lecture soon so i'll think i'll get some coffee to wake myself up."

she lifts herself from the chair her friend is seated at, still half asleep making an effort to not bump into the tables around her.

"remember not too much caffeine!"

standing in the line to the front of the café she pulls her phone out of her back pocket, quickly checking her social media- now the only way she keeps in touch with those from high school.

relationship.

it was always the same. the same people posting images of them and their significant other doing various activities, rubbing it in all of the faces of the single.

seeing as she's now in the front of the line she puts her phone away again and orders a coffee- extra caffeine.

after collecting the coffee and making her way out the shop she checks her phone and realised she'll be late. this would be the third time she's missed this teachers lecture but its not her fault he chooses terrible times!

quickening her pace to the college she fails to see an ash haired boy, also seemingly in a rush, coming towards her.

they collide and with a gap her half-filled coffee cup falls down her top and onto the floor, covering her in her morning medicine.

"oh my! i'm so sorry!"

the boy picks up the cup from the floor and places it in the garbage next to them, trying to figure out what best to do in this situation.

"it's my fault. i'm late for this lecture and i wasn't looking at where i'm going so..."

ah pulls at the edge of her top trying to get the feeling of the damp fabric off of her skin.

"no i was on my way for a job interview and i was also in a rush and- ugh! i'm so-"

he finally looks up from the floor he was staring at in embarrassment and sees the person he ran into while she also finally looks at him, wondering why he stopped mid-sentence.

to him you were beautiful. he almost turned into tanaka and asked you to marry him right there. he could tell a lot just but looking into you beautiful
(e/c) eyes.

"i-i'm sugawara kōshi... again i'm so sorry."

"o-oh, i'm (l/n) (y/n). and it's okay it should dry in soon."

"you said you were headed to a lecture right? where?"

"it's just across the street there and to the right. it starts in about ten minutes."

"well, your shirt will never dry on time then will it?"

"ah, i guess not."

the girl chuckles looking down at the floor, all of a sudden not in such a rush now that there's a cute boy in front of her.

"here,"

the boy takes off the soft baby blue scarf from his neck and ties it around hers, giggling at how cute she looks with the flustered expression caused by their close proximity.

"use this to cover it up, okay?"

"i-i can't take this? how i'll i give it back?"

the boy pulls out a pen from one of his pockets and a scrap piece of paper he finds in the other while writing something down. once he's finished and hands it over to the girl she realises it's his phone number.

"call me when you're ready to return it. maybe i could take you out sometime? w-well you just seem like a f-first year... n-not that you're like dumb or anything i don't i-i just- ugh!"

he waves his hands around as if that will help her understand where he's coming from. she laughs loudly at how quickly he went from confident to cute and shy.

"okay sugawara-san. i'll call you."

"y-yeah!? g-great so um, i'll see you sometime yeah?"

"yup! bye-bye!"

"bye..."

the girl now happily skips across the road with his phone number still in her hand having completely forgotten about her previous tired state, lecture and spilt coffee...

"A-AH! the lecture!"

eh. it was worth it.
