I lay back on my bed, nerves pounding as I feel the mattress dip beside me. I sigh, eyes squeezing shut in frustration.
"I'm sure it's not a big deal" Vera reasons, "They broke up a while ago according to his brother"
I sit up, distraught "He still dated her! How can I compete with the avatar?!"
"You don't, you just be yourself" Vera says softly, "It's clear Mako is interested in you, I could see him blushing from across the table."
I sigh, looking down at my fingers.
"I guess you're right" I mumble, "I'm just insecure"
Vera pats my shoulder, "It happens to the best of us, but just be yourself and I know it'll work out"
I give her a small smile, reaching in for a hug. After a few moments we pull apart, Vera groaning.
"My head is killing me" she complains, "I'm going to have Bo do a treatment"
She gets up and leaves, I follow and watch her duck into Bo's room.
A few minutes later Vera is lying on the couch, a bowl of water beside us as Bo sits down.
"How was school?" I ask, watching her gather water with her hands.
"It was fine" She says, "Everyone kept asking me questions"
I watch as Bo bends the water, the droplets swirling in the air as she moves them toward Vera's head. Bo flicks her fingers and the water swirls, lying on Vera's temples before the water began to glow.
Bo was a naturally gifted healer, something she got from our mother. She was the only daughter to have waterbending, so naturally she got the most attention with her training. I watch as Bo does her treatment, letting the water rest on Vera's head. Her frown soon relaxes, the pain leaving Vera's head.
"You're getting good at that" Vera said after a while, sitting up.
"I'm the best there is" Bo grinned, moving the droplets of water in the air to play. "The elders at the Southern Water Tribe say I'm a prodigy"
Bo had amazing bending abilities, but lacked when it came to being humble.
I snort, watching her play around with the water when the phone rings.
"Elena!" My dad calls from the other room, "It's for you!"
I sit up and grab the phone, holding it to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Hey, it's Mako"
I smile, "Hey! How are you?"
"I'm well" He replies, his voice charming. "I was wondering if you wanted to hang out tonight. Bolin and I were going to this pro-bender match at the arena. He has a private viewing box with some of his castmates"
"Oh!" I say excitedly, "That sounds great!"
"Cool." Mako replies, I could hear the smile in his voice. "I'll pick you up around 8"
After exchanging farewells, I sat the phone back on the hook. I have so much to do! I had no idea what I was going to wear, nor any clue about the rules of Pro-bending. Let the work begin.
"This says casual, but still classy" Vera states, holding up a white sundress.
"Isn't it a little too casual?" I wince, "Ginger and a bunch of Bolin's mover friends are going to be sitting with us."
