Everything was happening in slow motion, my head spinning as I stepped into my home. The carpet was ruined, glass shattered as I looked around. Tears pooled in my eyes as I looked at my piano, the keys smashed and wires torn. It was ruined.
I felt a sob come out, my hand cupping my face as I looked around.
"Dad!" I cry, moving around the room. "Vera!"
Mako was behind me, looking at the damage as I looked in each room.
"Bo!" I yell, "Dad!"
"Dr. Shen!" Mako echos, peeking through doors and into rooms. Everything was trashed, my vanity smashed, drawers thrown around the room. All of my possessions were thrown around and crushed.
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I looked at Mako. "They're gone"
He looks at me, his face serious as he turns and goes back to the parlor.
I follow, arms hugging myself as I watch him pick up the telephone.
"The wires have been cut" He announces, "Stay with me"
I sniff, following him as we head back down to the lobby of my building. Mako rushes to his police kart, leaning over the seat to radio the station. I stand in the middle of the sidewalk, nerves pumping as he comes back to me.
"Chief Beifong is coming with some other officers" He says, "I'm going to call Bolin and have him come and take you to a hotel"
"No" I rush, "No, I want to stay and help find my family"
"Elena" Mako says sternly, "This is crime scene, you could be in danger"
"All the more reason to stay with you" I argue.
I had no idea what was going on. My head was spinning, tears spilling out of my eyes. My family was missing. My dad, Vera, and Bo. I had no idea what could have happened. I don't know if they are safe, or hurt.
Mako runs a hand through his hair, looking around.
"We'll wait until the chief gets here and we'll figure something out"
I swallow hard, following Mako back up to my ruined apartment. I kneel down, picking up the torn pieces of sheet music and cry, my head hanging low. I feel the Mako's warm touch on my shoulder, his hand soothing as I weep.
"What if something bad happened?" I sob, looking up at him with blurred eyes. "What is going to happen?"
"We'll find them" Mako promises, "I'll find them"
A knock on the door makes us look up, Mako answering as Chief Beifong enters followed by a team of officers. Her eyes were serious, her gaze narrow as she studied the room.
"Elena" she says, helping me stand. "What happened before you left?"
"I was getting ready to go to the match. My sisters were with me and my father was here. I left at 8" I explain, "I don't know of anyone else coming over tonight"
She nods, turning to an officer: "I want evidence taken from every room. Radio every officer in the city and tell them to start patrolling, not a single vehicle goes by without being checked."
The officers nod, moving around the room as I sniff.
"Elena, I'm afraid you can't stay here so we are going to have to put you in a hotel room-"
"She can stay with me"
Our eyes turn to Mako, his hand raised in the air as he looks between me and the chief.
