We got to our empty common room. Everyone was still at the ball. I sat on the couch by the fireplace. She plops down next to me, swinging her legs onto mine. I placed my hands on her legs and looked at her.

"Thanks a lot, Malfoy. Now we're going to detention together!" She said playfully.

"Yeah, well at least it's with me."

"Hey, um, what you said to Pansy and how you handled that situation was really nice. And I'm sure she really appreciated it."

"Yeah, well. It's not her fault. I mean, if I saw you with someone else I would probably feel the same."

"Draco, just say thank you." She said rolling her eyes.

"Thank you." I mumbled back to her. She laid her head back on the arm of the couch with her feet still propped on my legs. I put my head back and stared up at the ceiling.

"Tell me about your family." I hate this question. I hate explaining about my family and talk about my father.

"My family? There's nothing special about my family." I said with annoyance.

"Tell me about your mum. You never talk about her, and I know nothing." I inhaled deeply and looked at her. Her face was glowing from the fire and she had a curious look on her face.

"Fine. Well. She is a very nice person. A sweetheart. And I know she loves me very much. She's just trying to do what is best for the family and following father's decisions." I didn't want to tell Veronica that my father is a death eater. I didn't want to upset her.

"Do you think they will like me?"

"Like you? I know mother will love you! Father...well I'll be honest he may be a little harder on you." She smiled and sunk further down into the couch. A couple of minutes goes by and she finally breaks the silence.

"I know my parents would have liked you." Hearing her say that sentence made me smile. It was a terrible thing what happened to her parents, and knowing that she thinks her parents would like me made me really happy.

"Well, I can't wait to meet the rest of your family."

"You've already met some. They're closer than you think." She says looking down at her fingers.

"Okay, besides your sister silly."

"Erm. No. I mean-"

"There's more?"

"Yes. Well. I haven't been fully honest with you..." She started to get quiet. I could tell she was scared to tell me. I sat up and looked at her.

"Ronnie"

"Don't hate me."

"I could never. Oh, please don't tell me it's Potter. You're related to Potter?"

"What? No you idiot. He's dating my sister."

"Right. So then nothing could be worse!" She kicked me and smiled a little.

"No. It's professor McGonagall...she is my grandmother." I was taken by surprise. I would have never seen that coming. It took me a few seconds to process the information, but it all started to make sense.

"Oh." I said still sitting there in silence. Only one question came to mind.

"So...who was her-"

"My father." She said already knowing what I was trying to ask. "I know. It's hard to believe. How could the head of Gryffindor raise a Slytherin and a killer? She doesn't know either. That is why she was nervous when I was placed here. She wanted both of us of course in Gryffindor, but she just wanted us together. She hates the fact that we are split and that I share more of my father's characteristics. "
