The weekend before Thanksgiving break is typically the most stressed filled days for the average university student – in the United States, that is. Other countries might not be able to say the same. People were either locked up in their dorms studying for possible tests or assignments, or out at the clubs drinking away all their worries.
Finishing up all their assignments before the break seemed to be an important event that most students did, including Michael and Calum. The boys rarely ever cared about the university workload or attendance records, but when it comes to spending their holidays doing nothing, they become entirely new people. And Maria, the girl is overworked as it is, and the rush to finish only pushed those limits turning her into some study crazed zombie.
Lyla, compared to her friends, was left as the odd one out. She knew that her work habits were bad, horrendous compared to those of her friends. Maria would work on her assignments the day they were given, Mike and Calum would do them at least the weekend before the due date, whereas Lyla would leave it to the night before. It wasn't like Lyla would work for hours on end, no, she'd work for at least three hours– four hours max.
Now, since Lyla wasn't taking any classes that required math as a core, things became a lot easier. Most of her assignments didn't involve 'problem-solving', which she managed to get by easily.
On a Friday night, she'd expected Michael or Calum to drag them to some new party or spontaneous road trip – that Lyla would definitely have gone on – but no. The group of four are all crowded in Michael's apartment living room going over lecture notes and revision to complete essays or tasks.
Lyla was far too distracted by the music playing in her ears to actually work. She was more focused on daydreaming about the music video that had formed in her head. Times like these where she wished she did film in high school, and even now. Lyla's only issue was that she didn't have the motivation, and subjects such as film and the arts are constantly looked down upon by society.
Oh, another reason was Lyla didn't want to get into an industry dominated by men who will constantly belittle her talents. Which, in a way, is the reason she didn't pick law either.
"Oi," Calum said poking the girl's side, "you've been staring at the ceiling for like five minutes. What's going on?"
"Hm?" She hummed, pulling her earphone out so she can properly hear what the boy has to say. "What did you say?" She asked, turning down the loud music playing into her left ear.
"It's just that you seem a bit distracted..." Calum trailed off, "What's on your mind?" He asked, hoping to receive the answer that somehow relates to the blond boxer.
"Oh, I'm just thinking about if I should have gone to film school instead." She told. There has always been an excessive amount of creative ideas that popped into Lyla's head, music videos, stories, artwork. The girl just never found a way to approach it or act on it.
For example, directing people around and giving them instructions on what to do. Lyla would start off confidently then start drifting off and contemplate about trashing the entire project. And the fact that she's water dominant really affects her capability of working with other people.
"Well, why didn't you?"
"I didn't want to be surrounded by men who relate to the Joker and BoJack Horseman, and who make liking movies their entire personality." Lyla responded, "And well, I have the ideas, I just can't approach them correctly."
"Fuck yeah!" Michael yelled, slamming his laptop shut, "I finished watching all my lectures. That's enough work for today." He said, scrolling through his contacts to find the number to his go-to pizza place.
