"You've got to be kidding me," Lyla and Maria stared blankly at the two boys in front of them, unamused with their choice in costume for the night.
"What?" Calum said, admiring himself in the mirror, "I think I look good." He stated, doing a little spin, "Lyla, you are actually quite fashionable." The boys decided it would be best to dress up as the girls, of course, not everyone at the party would get the joke, but they did so that's all that mattered.
"Why couldn't I be Lyla?" Michael groaned, "Maria dresses like a business mom." He added, tugging down the fairly expensive dress pants, they were meant to fit loosely although Michael bought the wrong size.
"Because, I called Lyla first," Calum responded. He would never admit it, but Lyla – despite how carelessly she dresses – has good taste. Calum was starting to really like the outfit, "And this was a good excuse to get my flannel back."
"Michael that is a good look on you," Maria reassured, "it's just that the greyish-blue of the sweater clashes with your hair." She was amazed by how the boys managed to look good out of their casual black skinnies and band tees, with a little help they clean up well.
"Yeah, you guys should follow our fashion advice more often," Lyla commented, "I like how the tucked in sweater looks. Michael for once, you actually look good."
"Mhm!" Maria agreed, "You look very classy." She said, reaching to mess up his hair, "Hey! We're almost matching." It was an attempt to cheer up the boy, no one forced him to choose that particular outfit, Maria wears other clothes. She doesn't just stick to the simple minimalist look, New York was drifting into winter and it was getting cold, which is why Maria constantly wore sweaters or 'dressed like a mom'.
"I like this oversized vibe," Calum commented, he hadn't been paying attention to the conversation since he's been caught up in himself. "Hey, do you think this will look better if I untucked my shirt?"
"No," Lyla replied, "keep it."
"Okay, well we better get going," Michael spoke, shoving his hands in his pockets, "we have to stop by the club for a while– shit!" He yelled, remembering the outfit he was wearing, there was nothing wrong with it, after looking at himself in the mirror it started to grow on him. The issue was the people at the club know Michael, and this will be very out of character for him to dress nicely for a meeting with West. He has a reputation to keep up.
"What?" Maria asked.
"I look nice!" Michael explained, "I can't look nice when I go to the club, people will start assuming that I care." When Ashton dropped by his apartment, even he commented on the red-haired boy's new look and said: I like the new style, you should dress like that more often.
"I don't give a shit what people think," Calum said, "I look good and I'm not afraid to show that."
"Okay, you guys better get going, Maria and I have some cookies to bake and movies to watch at Michaels apartment." Lyla said, grabbing a packed bag from the bed and escorting the boys out, "I got a key made so you don't have to worry about me not getting in or anything."
"Wait, when did you do that?" Michael asked, he hasn't recalled any moment in the last week or month where Lyla managed to have his key, nor has she ever told him she's getting a copy made.
"I went with Ashton the other day," Lyla told, "I went over to your apartment, but you weren't there, then Ashton showed up and we made a copy." She explained, Lyla and Ashton only ever had a few coincidental run-ins with each other, and each time they either brushed it off and continued with what they were doing, or they'd get lunch.
