Well, today was the day. Gwen would be stopping over after school and I was gonna ask her to the big dance. I was a little nervous, but there was little doubt in my mind that she'd say no...

I sat on the couch, nervously tapping my finger against my thigh.

Every few minutes I'd look up at the clock on the wall.

'Why does time have to move so slow?' I thought.

Then, my mom walked into the living room. "Still waiting for Gwen?" She asked as she sat down next to me.

I nodded. "Yeah, time sucks by the way."

She chuckled. "Don't worry, sweetie, she'll be here."

As if on cue, there was a knock at our front door.

"Speak of the devil." My mom said as she stood back up.

I smoothed out the front of my shirt. "How do I look?"

My mom smiled. "Great, now don't make her wait forever."

I smiled back and pulled her into a big hug before turning my attention to the door.

Another knock rang out as I turned the handle, pulling the door open.

I stopped dead when I saw Gwen standing on the other side, a flowing, pink dress wrapped tightly around her body.

Her hair was freshly curled, her makeup actually had some color to it for once and she held a bouquet of roses in her hand.

"Wow..." Was all I could say.

Gwen looked down at her dress. "I hope you like it. I picked it out for you."

I shook my head slowly. "You look beautiful... But, you didn't have to do all this for me."

She smiled. "Sure I did... You changed your whole life for me. It's only fair I do the same for you."

I smiled in return, my face heating up. "Thank you..."

She nodded, handing me the roses before pulling me into a deep kiss.

After the shock wore off, realization started to sink in. "Wait, why're you all dressed up in the first place?"

Her cheeks reddened as she averted my gaze. "I was actually here to ask you if you wanted to accompany me to the Winter Ball."

I looked at her in disbelief, a slight giggle escaping me.

"What'd I say?" She asked.

"Nothing, just the irony of this whole thing."

She looked into my eyes then. "So, is that a yes?"

I pulled her into another kiss. "Try 'hell yes.'"

"I heard that." My mom called out from the kitchen.

Gwen and I chuckled.

"Here, why don't you come in, I have something I wanna show you."

She smiled as she followed me up to my room.

"You did not." Gwen said, looking over the dress I bought.

"Oh, I did. And I guess you had the same idea."

She shook her head in disbelief. "You're perfect, you know that?"

I flashed her a smirk. "Maybe... But, I like hearing you say it."

She rolled her eyes playfully before pulling me into yet another kiss.
