Shelly was awoken by sounds. Not by the sounds of Slappy and his monster friends, but by the sounds of a baby. Tamara had crawled on her and was sitting on her chest. She was cooing and rubbing her little hands on Shelly's cheeks, wanting her to wake up. She was not scared. She just wanted her big sister to hold her and play with her.
But there was no time to be playing. They both were in danger.
Shelly let out a long yawn as she scooped up Tamara and sat up. She cradled her and smiled. "Hello, cutie. Did you miss me?"
Tamara does not like when her sister is sleeping. If the baby was awake, then Shelly must be awake too. But Shelly could not help it. With everything that she went through, from preparing for the talent show to getting bombarded - without the bombs - by James and Chad, it was no wonder why she was exhausted. She was done for the day. Unfortunately, the day was far from over.
Speaking of James and Chad...
Shelly took in her surroundings as she slowly rose to her feet. She had been lying in dirt. She and Tamara were not in front of the hospital or in the orphanage. Shelly then remembered Aunt Dahlia and what she said and thought that they were in her yard. She did say that she was bringing them home.
The orphan cupped her hand around her mouth and called to her. "Aunt Dahlia? Aunt Dahlia! Where did you go?"
Only then did she notice the ring on her finger. She lowered her hand and uttered a small gasp. She was not wearing a ring this morning. If Shelly was sure about anything, it was that. She lifted her head to the sky. With the exception of the millions of twinkling stars, the sky was pitch black.
"How the heck is it nighttime? Have I been sleeping that long?" she questioned. "Well, I am in a fictional book. Anything can happen."
"Mmm!"
"Huh?" Her eyes followed the sound - and she saw them. Her ex-boyfriends. Chad and James.
The boys, who were inches from her and her sister, were on the ground and tied up with gunk. Bounded together by gunk spewed by the Mantis. Their eyes were wide, and their bodies were quivering in fear.
Shelly wanted to free them, but refused to. Can you blame her? One, she did not want any of that gunk on her or Tamara. And two, they hurt her. Not just with words, but with punches and kicks. They were the reason why she landed in the hospital. What if they beat her up again if she freed them? She could not take that chance.
She kissed Tamara's cheek and began walking away. "What do you say, Tamara? Should we find a phone and let the police deal with them?"
Tamara stuck out her tongue at the mean boys and replied, "Yeah!"
Shelly had only taken ten steps - when a dog ran out from behind one of the attractions.
"Doggy!" Tamara exclaimed with excitement.
Tamara, as well as I, the narrator, were incorrect. It was not a dog. It was a werewolf. The Werewolf of Fever Swamp.
The Werewolf, showing his sharp teeth, rose on his hind legs and marched towards the girls.
After processing the monster that was right in front of them, Shelly said, "It cannot be. This cannot be happening."
Shelly held Tamara close to her and tried running in the opposite direction, but bumped into yet another monster. The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena.
Shelly wanted to scream. Scream to the heavens so badly. But she was afraid that she would upset both the Abominable Snowman and the Werewolf, so she kept her mouth shut.
The Abominable Snowman glanced down at who had bumped into him. He stared at her and the infant for about a minute before hurrying over to the boys and picking them up. He raised them over his head and ran off with them.
The orphan was confused and worried. Why did that creature take her ex-boyfriends? What did he want with them? Was he planning on eating them?
She spun around - and saw that the Werewolf was looming over her now. She gulped.
Was the Werewolf going to eat her?
The Werewolf growled as he snatched up Tamara.
"No! Tamara! Give her back!"
The Werewolf ignored her. He jumped over her and vanished behind an attraction. She was going to go after them when she tripped on a rope. A rope set up by none other than the Gnomes.
The poor orphan fell on her stomach and groaned. She did not even get the chance to stand back up. As soon as she was lying on the ground, all the gnomes surrounded her and kept her down, making sure that she did not escape.
She could not believe that this was happening to her. First, a werewolf. Then, some abominable snowman. Now, a bunch of gnomes. Why her? What did she do to deserve this?
As if he had read her mind - and he did - she heard a person say, "You do not deserve any of this, my dear. My monsters and I just do not want you to leave."
"Who said that?" Shelly said just above a whisper. "Show yourself!"
Footsteps echoed throughout the abandoned park. A figure came into view and halted in front of her and the gnomes. He was taller than the gnomes, but was shorter than her. His hands were behind his back.
"My, my. You look even more ravishing up close."
Shelly's eyes widened. She could not believe who it was. "It...it is you. The puppet from the classroom. Mr. Stine's puppet."
"I am happy that you remember me," Slappy replied. "I am remember you too."
"Why are you on my aunt's property? What do you want?"
Slappy tossed back his head and cackled. "You will be my bride. Forever."
