Chapter Eight

I want to kill whoever decided to make us do PE first thing on a Monday morning. I hate sport so much. Katherine and I walk as slow as possible to lesson from our lockers, clutching our matching North Street Academy PE bags. Honestly I don't see the point in matching PE bags, it's easier for people to steal things.

People rush past us trying to get to lessons on time, the bell hasn't even gone off yet so I don't see the hurry.

We arrive at our lesson just after the bell goes off. We all squeeze into the tiny changing room, Katherine and I walk to the back because hardly anyone stands there.

Whilst I am getting dressed I realise I still have the necklace Alex gave me on. Then I remember that I didn't tell Katherine about it, she stands there staring at it.

"Where did you get that?" She asks.

"It was a Christmas present."

"Was is from Alex?" She whispers

I look around to see if anyone is listening to us. "Yeah, don't tell anyone."

I am just about to turn back around to continue getting changed when the girl next to me says "Do you go out with Alex Cooke?"

"No." I shake my head and pull my top on.

"No you don't do you, not after what happened with James." Says the girl next to her.

"I don't go out with him." I say

They don't listen to a word I say, soon almost everyone near us is talking about it. They don't stop until our teacher, Miss Hill, comes in. I have to take my necklace off but I don't want to leave it in the changing room so I put it in my pocket.

We walk into the sports hall and sit in our groups, unfortunately Sophie is in my group. We sit in silence while the teacher is talking to us but when Miss Hill goes to collect the equipment Sophie turns to speak to me.

"What do you think you are doing?" Sophie says.

"I haven't done any thing." I say.

"Yes you have. Telling people you don't go out with Alex."

"Yeah, because I don't go out with him. Ask him your self seen as you spend so much time at his house."

"I don't believe you and you know what, I will ask him."

"Okay, Whatever."

***

I am in English, I am sat with Katherine, Alex and Rebecca. We are writing letters as book characters and we have to plan our letters in groups. I have to take charge just so Katherine doesn't rip Alex's head off. It's getting better, Katherine doesn't totally hate his guts.

We actually get some good work done but Katherine sucks at empathising. We have to express the feeling of the character luckily Alex and Rebecca know what we are doing. Every so often I catch Sophie looking over at our group, it's getting rather annoying now but no one else seems to have noticed.

***

Lets just say I have had better break times, Sophie came up to Alex, Katherine and I while we were walking down the stairs and started asking him loads of questions. I don't know why she cares if I go out with her boyfriends brother or not.

After the history lesson I meet Katherine and Alex in form, they also had history but with a differnet teacher. They tell me about all the questions Sophie was asking him.

***

I open the door and walk in, Joshua trailing behind me. I hang my bag up and go into the kitchen where my step mum and Meghan are. Meghan is doing homework and my step mum is helping her.

"Hi honey, did you have a good day?" She asks as I go to sit down.

"Could have been better."

"Can you help me with some maths homework, mum can't do it." Meghan asks, looking up at me with her wide eyes.

"Okay I will try."

She looks up at me with a huge smile on her face. I don't even know what it is or if I will be able to do it. I sit down and take the piece of paper to see what it is. I go through some of the questions and then we start talking about school until my phone starts ringing in my pocket.

"Hello Bella." Alex says as I answer the phone.

"Hey" I say, standing up and walking into the living room.

"Do you want to come round for tea?" He asks

"Isn't Sophie there?"

"No, she didn't come today."

"I will ask my mum then ring you back."

"Okay, bye."

"Bye."

When I walk back into the kitchen Meghan is staring at me like she is desperate to find out who I was talking to. All throughout my conversation with my step mum about going to Alex's house Meghan is still staring at me longingly.

"Please, please, please can I come with you." She begs

"No."

After much arguing with Meghan she lets me leave. Whilst coming back down the stairs after getting changed I ring Alex to tell him I am on my way. When I arrive at his house about fifteen minutes later Amanda lets me in and tells me where Alex is. I walk up to his room and knock on the door, he tells me to come in and I sit next to him on the edge of his bed.

"Hey Alex." I say as I sit down.

"Hi Bella."

We sit and chat for a while and I tell him about Meghan wanting to come with me and he tells me more about what Sophie was saying to him earlier. We end up talking for about half an hour before Johnathan shouts us down for tea.

We all talk while we are sat at the table, I'm sat with Alex and every so often James keeps looking up at us just like Sophie was earlier. After finishing the meal Alex offers to walk me home but Amanda asks him to help her load the dishwasher. I go sit in the living room and wait for Alex, a few minutes later James walks in shouting down the phone.

"What? Is my brother not allowed friends?" He shouts then puts the phone down on her."She is doing my head in."

"I warned you, didn't I." I say

"This is your fault."

"Why, is your brother not allowed friends?"

He shakes his head and rolls his eyes at me. "I remember why I was friends with you."

"You might do, but you still chose her over me."

Alex comes in and I stand up and we walk into the hallway and I take my coat off the rack. Alex gets his coat and he walks with me back home.
