"Fireman down!" Harry yelled. The whole scene was quiet and chaotic at the same time. "Man down! Get the ambulance now!" Papa yelled too. They were scrambling to get our ambulance to the scene. "Tone for man power from Hilltop, Standfort, and Manson!" Papa went over the radio after he paged for the ambulance. I had no idea where Kyle was, or Jet, or even John. My main attack team was nowhere around me.

8 hours earlier.......

I called Ky when I got home and we went to the diner to have some late lunch or early dinner. It was only 3. I told him all about my trip with Gavin. And, how nice that it actually was. "So, he came and saw you before he left?" Ky couldn't believe it. "Yeah, and I really wish that he didn't. All that time that I have spent over the last two months trying to forget him, just went to shit." I sighed. I was really hurt and even more pissed than I was before. "Hey, maybe you needed to say goodbye. Maybe that's the reason that you weren't really over him. Maybe that's why it only took a matter of ten seconds or seeing him to turn all your hard work to shit." Ky gave me a soft look. I rolled my eyes. "Maybe. Well, now that he and I have said goodbye, and I've told you everything maybe we can finally all move on." "And how are you going to move on?" "I don't know yet. I'm going to start by finishing college and maybe getting a job and maybe find a nice house for Avery and I." "So, what are you and Gavin doing about the Avery situation?" "Well, right now he has her during the week, I have her during the next week and then she goes where she wants to go on the weekends." "So you two have made a little progress?" "Yes, and hopefully we'll make more." "I hope so too." Ky smiled. He is probably the one person in the world that knows just how much that I love my sister and I don't want to lose her.

After our lunch/dinner, we went to my house and watched movies. Papa came in the living room and just stood in the door way. "I have something for you two and I think that you'll love it." He smiled and we both looked at him confused. "I have the schedule and the sign up forms for fire fighter two. There are only so many spots. Are you two interested?" he showed us the sheet. "Fire fighter two?! Where is it?" I asked. I was really excited and interested. "It's at our station and it's available in July." "Give me that form Chief I'm doing it!" I Jumped right into it. "Me too!" Ky followed me. "I knew that you two would love it. I'm going to make a trip to the fire house. I have to hang this up before someone complains that I "didn't tell them" about this." he rolled his eyes. "Okay, thank you!" I smiled and hugged him.

"Does he know what happened early this morning?" Ky asked as soon as Papa had left. "No, no one does except you and Gavin. I wasn't even sure that I wanted to get out of bed today." "So what made you?" "Because I'm a phoenix. I may burn in the fire, but I will rise from the ashes. And I'll be stronger every time." "There's Mickie." He laughed. "She's always been here." "Not really. You were different for a while. When you were with him and after he broke your heart. I'm starting to see the you in you again." "You are so lucky that you are talking to the me in me, because no one else would have understood that." I laughed and so did he. "It's been a while since you were genuinely happy. You weren't really happy with or without Greg, and you weren't really happy with John. Being a fire fighter makes you extremely happy and I think it's what you're made for." "It's in my blood." "And it always will be."

In the middle of our sweet and gag worthy heart to heart, the pager went off. "Hale County to Clarksville, report of a structure fire. 114 Rawhine Road." That's when the adrenaline started rushing and we ran to Ky's truck. I put my gear on and hopped in. We went to the station and jumped in one of the rescues. We jumped in with Harry and took off to the scene. When we had gotten there, there was smoke everywhere. I could barely see a thing. We jumped out and pulled up the door of the side compartment. We took out the air packs and packed up. Papa had grabbed the tanker and arrived to the scene seconds after we did. My I couldn't see Kyle anymore. "Mickie. Grab the line and go in." Papa looked at me. "Yes, sir." I answered and to grab the line. "Ready?" Jet came over "Yeah, have you seen Ky?" I asked. "No, not since you and him got out of the truck. He'll show up he always does." Jet shrugged and I nodded.

Jet and I had the line and had them charge it. The house was too involved, there was no point in even going inside. It started in the basement that's all we knew. I felt some else grab the hose and I looked back. It was John. I ignored him. It's not like I could even fake a smiled because he wouldn't have seen it. I was still kind of looking for Kyle and he was making me really nervous. "Mickie! We need you over here!" Harry called and I ran over to him. "Can you run this line?" he asked pointing to the new line they had brought out. "Yeah, no problem." I went over and that's when it happened...........

I ran over to where I heard Papa and Harry. I pushed through to see who it was. Yes, it was Ky. He was hit by one of the other guys' truck. "Ky!" I ran over to him. "Mickie, go back. Don't worry about me!" "Who is going with you?" "I don't know." "Then I am Ky." "No, you have to stay here they need you here." "You need me too." I sighed. He looked at me and turned to my grandfather. "Chief, keep her here. Please." "Mickie, you're staying here." Papa looked at me. "But," "But nothing! Get back over to the line now!" he sternly directed me. "Yes, sir." I knew he wasn't going kidding around. So I turned and went back to the line that they put me on.
