"I'm going to the cafeteria to get a snack. All this monster stuff is driving me up the wall. I just wasn't expecting it.

Anyway, does anyone else want to come?" Leo asked. We all shrugged.

"Sure, why not."

We were lined up outside the cafeteria.

The food was $1 per piece, and there were prepacketed cookies, and a slice of warm, freshly cooked pizza with the melted cheese still gooey.

It doesn't take a genius to guess which one I went for.

Once I got closer to the front of the queue, I realised the lady at the front was just repeating the save thing in a bored, nasal monotone.

"That's a dollar please thank you. That's a dollar please thank you. That's a dollar please thank you. That's a dollar please thank you."

You get the idea. She was, thank God, just a mortal, not a monster.

A very annoying mortal? Yes. But still a mortal.

Percy, behind me, heard her mortifying chant and heaved a heavy sigh.

Soon enough, we were all outside holding a slice of pizza except Leo, who had conveniently forgotten his money.

Who else predicted it? The bell rung for English, and I started walking.

I had high hopes.

Ou know those hopes I was talking about? Well they got crushed. The teacher was a complete idiot, who couldn't even turn on the computer.

"Umm, hello kids. I'm Mr Charlan, and erm, I'm your English teacher. Now, I'm having some difficulty with the board so if you could just stay put that would be great."

I heard a crash and he ducked as the ariel fell off. I stuck my face into my palm and sighed.
"
So um, just chat amongst each other for the time being," He continued. Another crash. I didn't even bother looking this time.

I turned to my let and the sight made me roll my eyes so hard they almost popped out of my head.

"Oh joy," I muttered.

A boy turned around to look at me, and grinned.

He was blonde and muscular, with a defined jaw.

He would have reminded me of Jason, but Jason's features were softer, more kind.

This guy was your classic idiot.

"Hey babe," He said, a sly smile on his face.
"I have a boyfriend," I replied, trying to keep my cool.

"Oh I know. But once you get a taste of this," He gestured to his face,"you'll forget all about him." I rolled my eyes.

"I'll introduce myself," He continued. This guy just wouldn't give up, would he?

"This is the Joe. Joe is sure you will like him."
He winked at me.

"I'm pretty sure I won't," I replied.

"Joe is sure. How could one resist the Joe?"

"By using common sense," I grunted.

"Ahh, the new girl is feisty, Joe likes that."

I rolled my eyes. He flexed a muscle and said,
"The Joe is amazing."

"'The Joe' sounds stupid talking in third person," I retorted.

He looked hurt for a second, then have me a look like I know you want me, and winked yet again.

"I assure you, the Joe will not forget you," He said, blowing me a kiss.

"Oh gods," I sighed, rolling my eyes.
