Annabeth POV:
The school bell rang and Percy and I were waiting outside the school for everyone else.
Piper and Jason arrived next, followed by Thalia, Gwen, Nico, Wilson, Leo and Pixie.
"So, where are we headed?" Thalia asked, walking hand in hand with Gwen.
"Starbucks, I really need a coffee," I said.
"Can't we go to Pret instead? They do better sandwiches and I'm starving," Leo said.
"Fine," I sighed, rolling me eyes.
"I know a shortcut," Pixie said. "There's a tunnel that goes underneath the train tracks that cuts straight through town."
"Sure," Piper said.
We headed towards the tunnel and started walking through.
The lights started flickering and we heard a growl.
I saw two red eyes in the darkness. Then four. Then eight.
"Percy!" I hissed.
"What?" He asked innocently. He turned around and saw the red eyes and heard the growls.
He cursed under his breath.
He gestured to me to get our mortal friends out. I nodded.
"Hey guys, can you do me a favour?" I said once we were out the other side.
"Can you do to Pret and save us seats? Piper's upset about something and she wants to talk to us alone," I explained quickly.
"Yeah, sure," Gwen and Pixie said.
Will looked suspicious.
"Bye!" I said, running back into the tunnel. I heard barks now.
"How many?" I shouted.
"Four," Jason replied, taking a swing at one with his gladius.
"Four!" I shouted.
"That cannot be a coincidence!" Thalia said.
"Someone must have sent them after us," Nico said.
A hellhound seemingly came out of nowhere and I screamed.
"Annabeth!" Percy screamed.
He ran towards me but he was too far away.
The ugly beast opened its mouth, saliva dangling from its fangs.
I thought I was going to die.
Then, from behind me, an arrow flew right past me and into the hellhound's eye. I turned around in awe.
"Will?" Nico said.
"No time to explain!" He shouted, firing another arrow into its other eye.
The hellhound exploded into flames, right as Percy jumped in front of me and activated his shield, it spiralled out and protected us from the blast of flames that erupted from where the hellhound was standing.
"Thanks," I quipped, pecking his lips.
"Anytime," he replied, wiping the sweat off his forehead.
Together, we finished off the rest of the hounds and watched as they burst into flames.
Will fought like a demon, and Nico fought by his side summoning skeletons and ghosts to help the fight.
"If only we had Frank here," Percy said, turning and stabbing its foot with his sword, "He could turn into a hellhound and tell them to go away in dog language."
I laughed. Only Percy could say something as hilariously stupid as that.
"Well," Piper said, wiping her forehead, "I think that's all of them."
I turned to Will. "Care to explain?"
"They're waiting for us, aren't they?" Leo said, gesturing for us to hurry up.
"They can wait five more minutes. I wanna hear this."
