The Final Standoff

The next day, the Cullen's along with their witnesses all gathered in a snowy field ready to face the Volturi. Hannah and Sarah were stood by Bella, Edward and Nessie all watching the horizon in anticipation. Nessie and Sarah were carrying the packs Bella had made for them on their backs. 

" If we live through this, I'll follow you anywhere, woman" Garrett turned to look at Kate who stood by his side. 

" Now you tell me" Kate smirked 

Then from out of the mist and trees, a huge number of figures all clad in red and black cloaks emerged. 

" The Redcoats are coming! The Redcoats are coming!" Garrett muttered softly, bouncing slightly on the balls of his feet. 

The Volturi came forward in a huge mass of black cloaks. Nessie and Sarah clung to their mothers in fear. Aro, Marcus and Caius were in the centre of the whole hoard. Aro's eyes glanced over all the witnesses. 

" Aro's looking for Alice" Edward muttered, reading his mind 

When Aro failed to locate Alice, his gaze stopped on Hannah and he smirked slightly. Edward looked into Aro's mind again and immediately turned his gaze to his youngest sister. A look of shock, disbelief and pain on his face. 

He knew what Hannah had done and was planning to do. 

Hannah looked back at him and shook her head. Begging him silently not to say anything. 

 Irina was also among the crowd of cloaks and her sisters gasped when they saw her. The sound of wolves howling echoed from the forest and soon both packs arrived and joined them. Jake and Seth came and stood by their imprints protectively. Hannah glanced at Jacob by her side. Neither of them had said a word to each other since the night before. But with one look Hannah knew that Jake was ready to give his life if it meant that she and Sarah were safe. The Volturi stopped a few yards away and removed their hoods. Carlisle then broke away from Esme and stepped forward to address the Volturi leaders.
