December 1st
Camila huffed as she watched from her large window. The people walking around New York as it snowed so heavily. She wondered what it felt like to enjoy that because she could barely bring herself to stay out in the cold for very long. It's been a long day. From the headaches from clients and the lack of caffeine she had in her body, she was falling asleep but she couldn't. She had to get this project done for her boss so he'd have it tomorrow morning and he'd absolutely kill her if it was in late. Sometimes she felt as if she was back in high school but that's the price you pay for growing up and going to Law School. She stepped off of the bench that was attached to her window to brew a cup of coffee in hopes to keep her awake.
9:02 PM
Camila audibly groaned as she realized that there was nothing for her to make coffee with. She made a personal reminder to go grocery shopping tomorrow if she had the time. She wasn't happy to be out in the cold as she walked down the beautiful streets. She would've driven to the coffee shop but what's the fun in that when there's Christmas lights strung everywhere and aesthetically pleasing shops that Camila would be heading into soon for Christmas gifts. The thought of Christmas scared her. She used to love Christmas and she still likes it but Christmas nowadays is a tad lonely. When your mother hates you, your father dead, and your sister completely shutting you out at the request of your mother, there wasn't really anyone to spend Christmas with besides her best friends which would make do. She was relieved when she reached the coffee shop, the heavenly scent of coffee filling her body and the warmth of the room soothed her. She walked up to the cashier with a gentle smile on her face, "oh, Camila!" Her friend Taylor said, already knowing what Camila had wanted. "Hey, T."
"Late night tonight, Cabello?" She asked with a smirk on her face. "A case. It's my longest one." She rolled her eyes at the thought of how much work and how much typing she'd be doing tonight. "Ahh, same thing as usual?" Camila nodded, knowing that Taylor knew what she wanted. Taylor is one of her closest friends along with Justin, Hailey, Niall, and Ariana. Camila had met them all in university as they all attended New York University and grew close as the girls were all roommates and the boys came along a little later in the first year. They drifted for a bit due to them all doing their own thing but soon found their way back to one another and were attached like family. Hailey was becoming an orthodontist, Justin wanted to become a music producer, Taylor wanted to continue being a barista, Niall had a love for technology, and Ariana was an artist—hell of a good one too.
"Thank you," Camila said before paying and leaving, only to bump shoulders with someone outside. It almost felt like a rock. Nonetheless, it caused her to spill her coffee, turning the white snow now black. "Fuck." She muttered and finally did she meet eyes with whoever it was she mindlessly threw herself into. He was gorgeous. The curls that peaked out of his beanie with a red nose from the cold. Not that it mattered. "I am so sorry," he said with wide eyes. "It's fine." It wasn't fine. She was falling asleep and now she had to get a whole new coffee. "Look, even I would be pissed if I lost my coffee to some idiot, so please, let me get you a new one." He pleaded and she gave in. She couldn't pass up free coffee.
"So," he said as they walked slowly towards the coffee shop, "what's your name and why are you getting coffee at this time of night?" He asked with a small chuckle. She cracked a smile, "I'm Camila and I'm a law student so I'm buried in work." She sighed and he nodded, "that's really cool... I mean, besides the workload."
"What's your name?"
"I'm Shawn." He said with a nod as he played with his freed curls, "and what are you doing out here walking at this time of night?"
"You really want to know?" He asked with a bewildered look on his face and she nodded eagerly. "My girlfriend and I had a huge fight, so huge that I kicked myself out of my own apartment." Camila almost laughed but refrained from it, "oh," she shook her head, "that sucks." He nodded, agreeing with her. They reached the coffee shop and as Camila walked towards Taylor, she shook her head in hopes to keep Taylor's mouth shut about her being with a guy when just a few minutes ago, she was alone, leaving with her black coffee to finish some work at home. "Camz, back so soon, huh?" She winked and Camila could see the look of confusion on Shawn's face. "Shawn, this is Taylor, Taylor this is Shawn... the stranger that knocked my coffee out of my hand who now owes me a new one." She smirked at him as he blushed in embarrassment before he decided to greet Taylor and then order, "one medium black coffee and two chocolate chip muffins."
