Quick authors note!!

I love seeing all the different opinions on this story!! One thing I want to get across is that both Shawn and Camila are at fault. Which is what makes this more interesting and much more realistic. There is no way in hell that someone in a toxic relationship will have everything perfect. And as for Camila, she isn't perfect and has never met someone in a situation like Shawn's so it's definitely okay to make mistakes... there will be many. I hope you're not too frustrated but ily guys and I promise this is all happening for a reason <3

Camila sighed as her friends and her gathered around the tree. She felt incredibly guilty for what Shawn had walked in on a few days prior to Christmas Eve. She wanted to tell him that it didn't even work with the guy she was with. However, she strayed away from that idea as it wouldn't make sense for her to explain herself to him. She didn't need his opinion or his blessing to do anything. Christmas felt off this year. From her friends asking where Shawn was and having to lie and say that they were still friends and he was just with family bothered her. Her eyes widened as a text from him lightened up her phone. He's been texting her and calling to get a hold of her but each time she'd ignore him. What happened between them was both of their faults—she knew that. But she could feel herself growing intense feelings for him and that wasn't okay. It wasn't okay when he surely didn't feel the same. It wasn't okay when he has a girlfriend. It wasn't okay when she didn't think they'd ever be more than friends.

Shawn
Merry Christmas Eve!

It wouldn't hurt to greet him too, she thought.

Camila
Merry Christmas Eve.

Shawn's heart skipped a beat as he starred down at his phone in amazement. She answered this time. That was a start, he thought. What he walked in on a few days ago still tugged painfully at his heart. He knew he shouldn't have cared. He has a girlfriend and he was happy. At least, that's what he likes to believe. Camila can do whatever she wants. Christmas felt dull this year. He wanted to be by Camila's side at least just for a minute. Just a minute to laugh and talk. Just a minute to watch her open her gifts. Just to see her smile. Anything. He'd do anything to see it because he's missed it so much in these past few days.

"Who's Camila?" His younger sister had asked as she held up the gifts nicely wrapped for Camila with her name tag on full display. Shawn's eyes widened as he realized how foolish it was to leave that under the tree along with the rest of the presents he has for his family and friends. Karen, his mother, smirked at him. He gulped audibly, quickly snatching the present away from Aaliyah. "She's just a friend... we met awhile ago." He said quickly and his father laughed, probably knowing that he was now nervous. "Where's Sheridan's gift?" Aaliyah smirked. It was no secret that Aaliyah despised Sheridan. She had every right to. It confused Aaliyah as to why Shawn would continue to be with someone who was disrespectful to his family.

"Where is Camila? Is she near?" Karen asked. Shawn nodded, quickly thinking of any lie he can spew. "I gave Sheridan her gift already and Camila is spending Christmas with her family." They all nodded as they sat around the table and enjoyed a Christmas Eve dinner like they did every year. Except this time, he wished that they had the chance to meet Camila. He knew they'd love her. He knew from the beginning that they wouldn't like Sheridan but Camila was different. She was someone you can get along with easily. She was stubborn and had a great heart—something Shawn knew he didn't deserve.

Later in the evening, his family and him sat on the couch and watched corny Christmas movies and ate cookies. He missed doing this. He loved how close him and his family were. They were his everything. Then it suddenly hit Shawn. Who the hell was Camila spending Christmas with? He knew she didn't fly back to Toronto. Especially not when her mom is seeking help and her sister is living with her aunt that she didn't get along with too well. It saddened him to think that she was possibly spending Christmas alone. He wouldn't wish that upon anyone.

Shawn
What are you
up to for Christmas
Eve?

Camila
Friends are over. What
about you?

He smiled to himself, thankful that she wasn't alone and she was instead with people she loved.

Shawn
Family's in town.

"Who are you talking to that's making you smile like that?" His dad asked, startling Shawn as he wiped the smile off his face. "Uh, n-no one. Just, Sheridan." He lied.

Aaliyah had taken his phone from his hands, "then why is Sheridan's contact name 'Camila'?" Shawn blushed and shook it off. He knew that his parents count sense something was up but they chose to not say a thing.

He wondered how she was. He wanted to know that she was okay. He wondered if she thought the same too.
