CH 4

Stranger

//A person whom one does not know or with whom one is not familiar//

"Your soulmate will be the stranger you recognize"

            Chaeyoung got in the car and began driving, she felt the slight breeze on her cheeks through the open window and she inhaled the smell of rain into her lungs. Looking to the side, she saw Mina shivering slightly, so without a word, she rolled up the windows and turned on the heat. The car was silent, beside the small hum of the heat and the soft snores Ray emitted. It was comfortable.

Mina felt the same, she was glad the windows were rolled up, she was cold but she didn't want to say anything in order to not be a nuisance to Chaeyoung. The car was silent, Mina was fine with silence she had been around it all her life, besides, she had nothing to talk about with Chaeyoung, she was just a stranger.

Chaeyoung: So how long ago did you get Ray?

her voice had a slight twine to it as if she cringed at her own question.

            Mina: I've had him for a couple years actually, when I moved here I adopted him for some company.

Chaeyoung nodded while keeping her eyes on the road ahead of her. The moon was shining brightly as they drove across the empty road. Their path only illuminated by the car's headlights.

            Mina: Have you lived here since birth?

            Chaeyoung: No, actually I got my degree then found a nice pet hospital I could work at. This place just seemed nice.

Slowly the conversation went along Chaeyoung asked about Mina's job and Mina about Chaeyoung's life. When they soon arrived to Mina's residence. Pulling up in front of the house Chaeyoung turned off the car.

            Chaeyoung: Well this is your stop. I hope Ray heals well if you need any help do come around at the clinic.

She smiles, it's a warm smile one you'd wish to stay around.

            Mina: Actually, mind if I take you up on that offer right now. I don't know how to settle Ray into the house. Plus I'd like to thank you for helping me, I'm making a pot of coffee would you like to come in and have some?

Chaeyoung, though hesitant, agreed. She parked the car into the driveway and got out. She pulled out the stretcher in her car and laid Ray onto it. She pushing him to the house. She got him settled while Mina went off to the corner kitchen to make some coffee. Once Chaeyoung was done she pulled off her jacket and sat on the couch with a huff. She had not realized how tired she was till now.

She pulled out her phone and kept busy while Mina returned. Looking around the room there were many pictures of Mina as a child and of Ray but no parents or siblings.

Mina came back, a small smile adorning her face and two mugs in hand. She gave Chaeyoung one, a brown colored mug and sat down across from her. She too looked tired, ready to sleep. They spoke for a while about where they had been what they had studied and what got them into their fields. They talked for and hour or so. Mina and Chaeyoung noticed each other's features the soft nose and sharp eyes or small smile and fluffy hair.  But there was one thing that didn't go unnoticed by Mina and that was the number of tattoos Chaeyoung had on her body. They were all different, tomatoes on her shoulder, carrots on her forearm, and a fish on her elbow. And while she was putting up her hair she even saw a tattoo right under her ear. Mina found them hot, a twist on the sweet side she had seen till now. A couple of minutes after coffee and talking Chaeyoung left giving Mina a small list of activities to keep up Ray's health.

Chaeyoung pulled out of the driveway, and began driving off to her house       

Chaeyoung pulled out of the driveway, and began driving off to her house. Mina was nice company. For the first night out of all her years she had a positive conversation. Yes with a stranger, but it was nice and she made great coffee. Pulling into her home Chaeyoung changed her clothes and fell asleep. The night was nice she felt calm and happy.

The next morning the rush of the week began. Chaeyoung headed to work humming softly as she reached "Unleashed"

            Chaeyoung: Hey Sana!

Sana looked up in surprise Chaeyoung normally never said hello first.

            Sana: Hey Chaeyoung, are you having a good morning?

            Chaeyoung: Yeah I guess I am

She smiled looking down at her fidgeting hands for a minute then she continued humming as she left to feed the animals. Then she went back to working on all of the patients that came her way. A couple hours later Chaeyoung went to take a break when suddenly she got a call from Sana. 'Hmm Sana never really calls.' Picking up the phone she spoke, "Hello?"

            Sana: Hey Chaeyoung, there is a girl here asking for you, something about having your clothes.

Confused, Chaeyoung began walking towards the front desk who would have her clothes? She doesn't have any friends in town, and she didn't give her clothes to the cleaners.

While walking she entered the main hall where Sana sat and was surprised to see Mina, smiling while standing next to the large desk. In her hands she held the clothes Chaeyoung lent her last night.

            Mina: Hey

She spoke, walking towards Chaeyoung, she Swept her off her feet lightly and gave her a hug then they walked outside to talk.

            Chaeyoung: Hey

She handed me the clothes and I took them. They smelled like her. A sweet floral scent something like lavender and jasmine.

            Mina: I hope I didn't catch you at a busy time, I realized while working that I forgot to give you back your clothes.

            Chaeyoung: No absolutely not, I was just going on a break, actually do you want to go get something to eat while I'm on break? I'm famished.

Chaeyoung was surprised by herself, she didn't expect to actually go out to eat, let alone with someone else.

This whole time, Sana was watching them through the glass double doors, smirking at the cute interaction. The way Chaeyoung was swaying slightly and how Mina was tucking in her hair. She thought they were a cute couple. But she didn't know Chaeyoung had a girlfriend.
