I was happy to be going back to school after my whirlwind, life-changing week. If there was anything I needed right now it was normalcy.
There were so many things I had to adjust to from the time differences between my family and me, living with the Fitzgerald family, and just trying to live like a normal teenage girl.
"There she is!" Jaidyn cheered as I walked towards my locker.
I did a little spin. "In the flesh!"
"How was your weekend?" she asked me as I leaned against the cold metal.
I rolled my eyes. "I had so much fucking homework to do."
"Ew," Jaidyn responded. "so I was thinking that it's been so long since we've hung out with the girls and everything so I figured that everyone can come to my house and we can Uber Eats something and just catch up."
I gave her a look. "I feel like something else is happening."
"See the new guy over there?" she nudged her head to the side.
I looked over to see this tall and handsome black guy that I'd never seen before.
My jaw dropped. "Holy shit. Where did he come from?"
"I heard he just moved back from some exotic country even though he's from Atlanta. His dad is like a big partner in Amex so they're loaded." Jaidyn put a big emphasis on the word loaded. "His first day was Friday."
"God Ai, stop staring so hard." Jaidyn hit my arm.
I moved my eyes back to her. "Sorry, but have you seen him?"
"I know girl." she agreed with me. "What's going on Fitzgerald? The brown-haired one."
"Oh shit you're smiling." she pointed out.
I shook my head. "It's nothing. We hung out on Saturday night when I got back and we had a really good conversation. Oh, we have a Jack and Jill bathroom so I have a pretty good view when he forgets to close the door."
Jaidyn's eyes got big. "Like what kind of view?"
I gently pushed her. "Oh my gosh! I haven't seen it. Just him shirtless."
She shrugged. "Let's revisit this conversation in a couple of months."
"Aiyla Clifford, could you report to the office please?" the intercom went off.
Ahh, that new last name.
"Hope it's a good thing." I rolled my eyes as I started my walk to the front office.
Did I do something wrong? Did I have another uncover agent other than Eddie? Was I in danger? So many thoughts and scenarios were running through my mind.
"Hi Your Royal Highness!" the secretary, Mrs. Keper spoke.
I shook my head. "Just Aiyla please."
"Gotcha." she gave me a small nod. "You're a student ambassador for the junior class and there's a new student that needs to be walked to their classes and shown around the school. It's their first full day."
Mrs. Keper handed me their schedule and I quickly scanned it. I'd walked other new students to their class so this wasn't anything new. But why on my first day back?
"You guys have the most classes together and I figured you'd be the best match." she explained. "For the classes, you don't have together just tell your teachers where you were and they won't mark you tardy."
"There he is." I turned around to see the same guy in the hallway. "Devon this is Aiyla and Aiyla this is Devon."
Wow lucky me.
