"City council to Congress. How are we going to do this?" Cole asked me as I sat down at the dining room table.
When we were growing up, we always called Cole the future president as a joke, but I don't think it was a joke anymore.
Cole and I sat down for a long time after we got married to talk about the future.
We knew that his main goal was to get to the United States Capitol as a congressman, then a senator, and then we prayed to God a President of the United States.
Now we were taking the first steps to help him achieve that goal by getting to congress.
When I went into Public Relations, I never imagine that I would be helping my husband. There was no one else I wanted to help more.
I helped him get elected to the city council at the young age of twenty-five, and I knew we could make it to Congress at twenty-seven.
"You're a husband, a dog-dad, a lawyer, city council member, and you have a big heart. We got this in the bag." I assured him. "Election day is five months away, so it's probably a good thing that we're starting now."
Cole nodded his head. "I agree. We got this."
I kissed his cheek. "There's no else I'd rather do this life with."
"You know what sucks? When we win this, I'm going to be going to DC a lot and you're going to be all alone." Cole realized.
I shook my head. "No, I won't."
I stood up and sat down on the floor next to Koda. "I got Koda. He'll keep me company."
"He better watch out for my Bean." Cole spoke definslevly.
"Congressman Fitzgerald has a really nice flow," I said out loud. "Do you get the vision?"
Cole nodded his head. "I see it."
"Congressman Fitzgerald. A trustworthy congressman who is an even better friend, brother, son, husband, and father." I looked him in the eyes.
He just stared at me. "Wait a minute. Let's rewind to that last word. What?"
I stood up from the floor and walked over to my purse that was sitting on the kitchen counter. I dug out the plastic stick and handed it to Cole.
"Are you serious? Is this an April's fools joke?" Cole asked me.
"It's June." I reminded him as he held my hands. "I'm only three weeks along and I wanted to come up with some cute elaborate way to tell you, but I couldn't wait."
"Aiyla!" he exclaimed. "You're pregnant?"
I nodded my head. "I'm pregnant."
It was the first time I said it out loud.
"If I'm right then baby Fitzgerald should be here in March." I beamed.
He wrapped his arms around me and spun me around. "We're having a baby?"
"We're having a baby." I confirmed.
It sounded so strange to say.
But it also felt really really good.
Especially after we'd been trying for the last three months.
"You're the first person I've told." I put my hands on his cheeks. "I was thinking when everyone comes to LA for the summer we could do something cute. Like shirts or cups."
His jaw dropped. "I'm going to be a dad and you're going to be a mom."
"Crazy isn't it?" I responded. "Just yesterday we were getting ready for our first day of middle school, prom, and then college. Now in a few months, someone is going to be half of each of us."
