USC and Oxford were two completely different schools.
I think that USC is where I really and truly belonged. I loved the campus, the people, and the professors.
My first semester there wasn't necessarily a breeze, but I loved it. I watched Cole handle summer school, so I decided to sign up for it too. I was technically still a sophomore, and I wanted to get caught up to be able to graduate in May.
For Cole's twenty-first birthday, we decided to drive up to Lake Tahoe for the weekend. I could believe that we were already turning twenty-one, I remembered our eighth birthdays.
"Oh, this is beautiful." Jaidyn commented as we walked into the rental house.
Ben ran over to the window. "The view is so gorgeous and look how clear the water is."
"My girl did good." Cole wrapped his arm around me and kissed my forehead. "Who is coming with me to buy my first legal bottle of alcohol?"
I rubbed his back. "How about you and the boys go do that while the girls and I go get food with substance?"
"Perfect." he agreed.
The boys went to the liquor store while the girls and I went to the grocery store. We just got small snacks, stuff for burgers, and mixers.
When we got back, we fired up the grill and swam around in the pool.
My legs were wrapped around his waist as we were in the pool. I could feel his hands on my ass, but I liked it.
"Are you going to give me another birthday gift later on tonight?" Cole asked me as he kissed my neck.
"I want you to hold me after." I looked him in the eyes.
"That's the best part." he smiled at me. "Ben is going to Seattle for an internship, so I'm going to be all alone in my apartment while I do summer school."
I stroked his cheek. "I'll be here while Jaidyn is back in New York. I guess we'll have each other."
"I love you, Aiyla Bean." he smiled.
I stroked his cheek. "I love you more."
"Get a room!" Jaidyn shouted jokingly.
I think traveling was a really good birthday present for Cole. All of us got to focus on having fun instead of worrying about school work.
We drank, paddle-boarded, and went out on a boat.
But you know, all good things come to an end.
We drove back down to Los Angeles and had to finish out the school year strong.
I spent a lot of hours in the library that I was on a first-name basis with all the librarians.
When finals were over, I couldn't even feel relieved since I was doing summer school.
