*Rewrites in Progress*
"Do not test me on my birthday, Jacob," I said, keeping my eyebrow raised as if to dare him to continue. He huffed, muttering something about birthday's being a curse, and I leant down to help the other guy up, finally catchin...

Quinn's POV
The room was blurry as nurses and doctors alike tended to Evelyn, promptly kicking me out. Anastasia had already called Jean, and now she was pacing outside of Evelyn's room. I grabbed her shoulders and stopped her, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
"Sweetheart, pacing will get you nowhere. You've called Jean, the doctors are with Eve, all we can do is wait," I said and she nodded, taking a seat on the floor. I slid down next to her and laced my fingers with hers, still not able to get over the fact our hands moulded together perfectly.
The past year had been the best of my life, though Evelyn had always been on our minds.
I finally reconnected with my father, which was something me a year ago could have never fathomed. Aurora had brought back the life he had lost when she and my mother had been presumably killed all those years ago.
It was odd though, not living with them, though we did FaceTime every Sunday, and Aurora always had a story to tell. She had been growing strong during the year, her face not the bony thing I had faced in the hospital and her body not a stick that could easily snap.
And of course, Anastasia had been amazing.
After she graduated high school last year (with the highest marks might I just add), we had spent all of our time together, even going abroad to countries we had always wanted to visit like Japan and Switzerland just to name a few.
Life together was bliss when it came to the two of us.
And now the ring in my pocket was starting to feel heavy, almost as if it were asking to be taken out.
I wasn't going to propose in the hospital; I couldn't imagine the horror of Tina and Jean's faces when they learnt they weren't at our engagement.
No, I was going to make it special, surrounded by our family, when I finally popped the question. Though it was old-fashioned, I did ask for Thomas' blessing, but I also asked for Tina's, who brought me into a big hug and said yes a thousand times, almost as if I had proposed to her.
The whole family was eventually let in on the secret, as Tina had been practically bursting at the seams once I had shown her the ring. It wasn't too flashy; I knew Anastasia would freak if it was expensive because she had been brought up in such a life where she craved normality, and a fancy engagement ring would scare her off.
We had discussed before what we wanted in life, and we both agreed on one thing in particular.
If we ever had children, we would never force them into the mafia.
After growing up in households where the mafia was central, we knew we couldn't load that burden onto innocent children.
Sure, we would tell them about it, and still attend balls, but until they were eighteen, we wouldn't force any choice onto their lives that could potentially cause them harm. Anastasia was quite firm on this idea, and I knew Charlie would agree with her wholeheartedly.
He had been fully supportive of our relationship, even more so once the weight of the mafia had been taken off of my shoulders. He was the one who had recommended we buy a house on the coast, and who had helped me pick out a ring.
----
A few minutes after Evelyn had woken up, a nurse came out with a small smile on her face. "She's doing well, and is asking for the both of you," she said, and Anastasia instantly got up, running into the room.
I thanked the nurse and followed suite, the sounds of laughter and crying filling my ears. Evelyn and Anastasia had their arms around each other, with tears streaming down their faces as they spoke. I caught Evelyn's eye and gave her a small wave.
"You're looking worse for wear," I commented and she snorted, rolling her eyes.
"Glad to see you haven't put a ring on her finger," she retorted, causing a blush to creep up Anastasia's cheeks all the way to her ears. I smiled at her as she looked down, before going to hug Evelyn.
"Gosh Blondie, you stink!" I said, and Anastasia giggled whilst Evelyn glared.
"Try being a fucking slug for a year and we'll see how you smell Walker." She tried her hardest to look angry, but a grin soon broke out and we were all laughing.
A knock at the door interrupted us, and Jacob and Jean flew in, practically shoving us aside to see Evelyn. Ana grabbed my hand and tugged me away, knowing we would have all the time in the world to see her later.
----
As I drove Ana and I home, I looked over to her, the sinking sun casting a glow upon her face. The air was getting warmer, children were finally emerging from their homes, and the beach was full as our car took us down the mountainous road.
Our hands were still intertwined as I sped down the road, and finally, as I pulled into our driveway, some neighbours smiled and waved to us - even old Mrs Dowling, who complained about everything.
Our house was made up of a grey timber with floor length windows surrounding it. We had a large backyard with a swimming pool and it was completed by a hedge of trees with knitted flowers hanging from the branches, curtesy of one of our elderly neighbours.
Anastasia adored our home, often inviting family over for dinner just to show off her proud baby. Our dining room faced one of the front windows, though we more commonly used the outdoor set which was situated in our front porch.
Anastasia ran inside to turn the alarm system off whilst I opened the side gate to let our puppy, Lucifer out. After deep thought, Ana and I had finally settled on choosing a golden spoodle, named after our favourite tv show character.
He jumped around me as I opened the front door, but he quickly ran to Anastasia's side; the typical behaviour of a mamma's boy. "Oh Luci! Aren't you the cutest lil thing!" she cooed, scratching him under his ears.
His tail wagged earnestly and he danced around, whilst Ana walked into the kitchen to get his evening treat. I switched on the tv, and almost did a happy dance as I realised it was Saturday, which meant movie night.
The movie tonight was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Anastasia and I's favourite. "BABY! SIRIUS AND REMUS ARE ON!" I shouted, and excited running came from the kitchen, as my beautiful girlfriend entered the living room with two salads in her hands.
"MY DARLING SIRIUS!?" she screeched, jumping onto the sofa. I chuckled and sat beside her, patting the seat in the middle for Lucifer to join us.
The movie started to play, and as I looked over to Ana, I smiled, realising just how lucky I was.
She was my everything, and I would give her the world.
