Screams filled the air as an explosion sounded from in the direction of the Hokage tower. Sakura didn't even spare Hashirama a glance before bolting off, trusting him to follow close behind.

Civilians ran away while shinobi rushed towards the action, only for them to all suddenly stop just outside of the hokage tower. A green pulsing circle lined around the Hokage tower and anyone who banged on it was thrown back.

Even knowing what would happen, Sakura still rushed forward and threw her shoulder into the wall of chakra. With a grunt, she went flying back, hitting her shoulder on a rock and rolling to her feet, sliding a bit before coming to a stop.

Hashirama ran to her side.

"It's a tag barrier. The tags are nearby, destroy them and you destroy the barrier." She stood and grabbed Hashirama's shoulders, looking straight into his panic stricken eyes. "They're probably hidden well since these assholes have been planning this for weeks so get the other nin to help you. While they look, you can just try to brute force it. Lace a couple punched with chakra and you might be able to get in. You may break your hand, though."

Hashirama squeezed her shoulders in turn, his face relaxing as he soaked in the plan she was feeding him. "Got it. What are you going to do?"

"I'm going to go to Madara," he opened his mouth to question but he continued before he could interrupt. "Hurry, my time's almost up."

Without explanation about what that meant, she closed her eyes and willed herself back into Madara's head.

Madara's side was dripping warm blood from a slash on his stomach that he clutched closely. Sakura could feel that his chakra reserves were low, likely due to the freshly self-healed burns that tingled up his arms and shoulders. Part of the interior of his office was on fire and singed explosive tags flitted through the air--likely what had caused his burns. He was standing in the centre of the room, surrounded by masked Uchiha nin.

After assessing his condition, Sakura closed her eyes for a moment and looked for Izuna's chakra signature. It was nowhere to be found.

She would have to deal with that later.

Sakura forced her chakra out of his head again and appeared beside him. She saw some of the attackers hesitate and take step back at the sight of her seemingly appearing out of thin air. "'Sup."

"Nice of you to join us. How was your date with Hashi?"

Sakura pressed her back to his, sliding her feet into a stance with a grin. "Not bad, but it got cut short because someone so rudely interrupted."

"Sorry 'bout that. I'll make it up to you sometime."

They both leapt into action. Sakura engaged three of the nin, trying to deal with them as quickly as she could. Her chakra reserves were already low from spending the day outside of Madara's head. That also came paired with unwarranted physical exhaustion so she could actively tell that her fighting was sluggish. As soon as she incapacitated those three with a couple chakra-laced punches, three more were on her.

By the time she had dealt with her half of the rebels, she turned to find Madara up against the wall, pale and panting. He clutched the wound in his side that seemed to have started bleeding even more profusely and stared down the two remaining ninja.

Sakura didn't hear herself scream as she rushed forward and punched one of them through the wall, not able to stop the other from sliding his sword through the stomach of a barely conscious Madara.

She swept the last rebel off his feet with a kick to the ankles and beat down on his stomach, sending him straight through the floor to the level below them. Madara yanked the sword from his stomach and slowly slid his back down the wall he was leaning against to sit on the floor in a puddle of his blood.

Sakura collapsed onto her knees by Madara's side and held glowing hands to his injuries. Thankfully, she had just enough chakra to heal his injuries and he seemed to be conscious enough to stay awake.

"Thanks for coming."

Sakura's lips parted in surprise before they pressed into a firm line. "Of course I'd come, what's there to thank me for?"

Madara shrugged, his head lolling to the side as he averted his gaze from her piercing green eyes. Sakura sighed and refocused on healing him. Thankfully the sword wound in his stomach was a clean one and there wasn't that much internal damage. She first carefully clogged the blood vessels leading to the wound to stop the bleeding and slowly began stitching the muscle fibres back together. She did the same for the other wound simultaneously.

Loud booms could be heard from outside, each a couple moments apart. It was likely Hashirama trying to punch the barrier down like she had instructed him. Sakura apathetically wondered if he had broken any bones yet--those were loud blows.

Sakura glanced back up and found Madara staring at her. Knowing he was caught, he simply gave her a warm smile, cheeks dusting red.

The wound on his side healed enough, Sakura brought her hand to his face to heal a small slash on his cheek. She brushed his hair out of his eyes and tucked the strand behind his ear. She had never noticed how long Madara's lower eyelashes were.

When did her face get so close to his?

Madara's hand snaked around her neck, pressing on the base of her scalp and bringing her even closer.

The glow in the hand that was still working on his stomach sputtered to a stop as Sakura leaned into the kiss. They parted for a moment, looking at each other through half-lidded eyes, before dipping back into the embrace.

When they finally let go of each other, Sakura's hands were well of their way to being fully transparent.

The pair didn't say anything, only smiled shy smiles at each other as Sakura's vision faded into darkness.
