Tajima Uchiha, the head of the Uchiha clan and Madara's father, sat cross-legged in front of his remaining two sons.
"I'm sorry, brother. We noticed your absences becoming more frequent and father ordered me to tail you. When I found out you were friends with a Senju I had to report it." Izuna's apology was sincere but the regret was lacking in his voice. Madara just stared past his father's shoulder at the wall, ignoring his younger brother.
Sakura held her breath as she watched the boys' father take his time formulating his sentences.
"Madara. Realize you've made a grave mistake in trusting someone from outside of the clan. Making friends with a Senju. Someone from the clan that killed your brother's and so many of your allies. It's disgusting," he spat. "If you weren't my son I would brand you a traitor and have you executed. Even with our blood relation, I am considering doing so."
Madara flinched that the words. "I understand, father."
"You'd better understand. It doesn't matter that you're some genius of the clan or that you're my eldest son. A traitor is a traitor and must be either proven otherwise or treated as one."
"Yes, father."
"There is only one way you may prove loyal to your clan. Next time you go to meet that Senju boy, tail him after you say your farewells and gather intel on him and his clan." Sakura could feel the fear clawing at Madara's insides as he realized what his father would say next. "And if he catches you, kill him immediately."
"Yes, father."
***
"Madara you can't. You absolutely can't." Sakura couldn't tell if the panic she was feeling was her's or Madara's but she did know that he felt like his world was collapsing around him.
"Why not? You heard my dad. Hashirama's from the Senju clan and is, therefore, my enemy. His clan killed my brothers." Madara was walking away from his father's office and towards home at a very fast pace as if trying to leave everything that had just occurred behind.
"So what?" Sakura's voice turned shrill for a second. "He's your best friend. You can't just kill him."
"My father will kill me if I don't. He'll announce me to be a traitor and will execute me. Then I won't be able to protect Izuna anymore."
"You can't..." Sakura said weakly, knowing this would likely change Madara for the worse. This would be their first falling out and it would lead to more war and to Izuna's death. "Madara seriously. Now is not the time to tell you everything, but I'm sure you're vaguely aware of the fact that I've been reborn several times."
"Yeah, so?"
"Well, as you know I used to live in the future and I can tell you with absolute certainty that this is a bad idea."
Madara was silent for a couple moments, finally arriving at home and storming to his room. "I'm not going to kill him. You're right, I can't." Sakura could tell he was curious but he didn't question.
"Ok good. We're on the same page. Now we've got to figure out how to do that and keep you alive at the same time."
Madara acknowledged her comment silently, his mind getting to work on ideas.
"Can we take them to the wrong meeting spot and just say that Hashirama probably found out about their plan and isn't coming anymore?"
Madara considered the thought, "No... Izuna knows where Hashirama and I meet. He tailed me. What if I wrote on the rock Hashirama gave me?"
Once they had gone over all the possible risks of what they were about to do, they got to work. Carving the word "scram" into the small river rock with a kunai. Sakura could feel the teen struggling to keep his anxieties at bay as he hid the rock in one of his drawers.
She wanted to say something but pursed her lips instead, unable to find any words to help the situation. So she just sat back silently as his thoughts fluttered by.
She could only pray that he would be alright.
Madara was awake at the crack of dawn that morning, feeling as though he had not slept a wink. He got out of bed and got dressed. He quietly made his way to the drawer the rock was hidden in, rolling it over in his hand twice before slipping it into his pocket. He felt like he was going to throw up.
"Madara."
He closed his eyes.
"Madara."
"What."
"It'll be ok, alright? Just keep calm. I'll help you through this." Sakura bit down on her lip feeling his fear, frustration, and overwhelming sadness wash over her like a tidal wave.
Madara's nails dug into his hands. "Okay."
Madara's back was rigid the entire time he led his brother and father through the woods to the place by the river where he usually met Hashirama. Tajima had insisted on coming with Madara as a form of backup and to ensure his son didn't mess up.
Madara was practically shaking by the time he had arrived at the location and Tajima and Izuna hid in nearby trees but he managed to quell his tremours before Hashirama showed up on the other side of the river.
Sakura knew immediately something was wrong.
Hashirama's face was grim and pale as a sheet.
They said their greetings and threw the rocks.
"Madara there are two people behind Hashirama."
Madara's eyes widened a fraction as both he and his friend looked down at their rocks.
Run.
The two boys forced smiles onto their faces.
"I just remembered that I have something to do!" Hashirama called over the running water.
"Ok, bye!" Madara turned away quickly, intending to get he and his brother out of there as quickly as possible.
There was the loud screech of metal clashing against metal and Madara whipped back around to see his father and his brother already in combat against two ninja from the Senju clan: a middle-aged man and a young boy who seemed to be around Izuna's age. Hashirama looked horrified from across the river, staring at the conflict through panicked eyes.
Madara's voice cracked when he yelled at his family to stop fighting and to just run away but the breath was knocked out of him when his father and the other man jumped into the air, pulling out knives and throwing.
Madara was moving before he could even think to. The two kunai fell into the water below with an anticlimactic splash before they could hit either of their brothers, leaving both Hashirama and Madara panting and staring at each other.
"So this is it, huh?"
"Madara, no."
"I guess so," Hashirama agreed with his now ex-best friend.
"Madara I swear to fucking god–"
"Looks like all that talk about building our own village was nothing more than wishful thinking." Madara's world was collapsing but he hid it well.
Hurt flashed through the other boy's eyes but it was quickly clouded over with anger. "Wishfull thinking?"
"Madara, its three on three, do you want to finally get your hands dirty?" Hearing his fathers voice sent another wave of emotions through the young Uchiha.
He closed his eyes and turned away. "No, he's stronger than me, we'd be at a disadvantage." Something warped inside him at that moment. The moment he turned his back on his friend, he could feel a surge of power going to his eyes.
His Sharingan had awakened.
Sorry for the short chapter! I hope you liked it (:
