Don't Trust Him

Sakura was frustrated.

She felt angry, sad, betrayed, and annoyed.

Sakura was tired.

Aware that she shouldn't let her temper take control at this moment, Sakura simply bit her tongue and took a sip of the drink the servers had brought for them. She viewed the three people sitting in front of her through her lashes. Kago was staring at the ground, Kin was nervously nibbling on her lip, and Teii's eyes were flicking between his half brother and Sakura.

This alcohol of the gods wasn't as strong as Sakura had wished it would be, but it was alcohol nonetheless. The burn lightened her mood immensely but then soon sent it plummeting even further when she remembered alcohol had been her escape during too many of her lives. An escape from a situation these people had put her in.

Teii seemed to sense her frustration. "Sakura, do you have any questions for Kago, Kin, or me?"

"No. Not really." Sakura took another sip before changing her mind. "Actually, why do you have an interest in Izuna? What exactly were you planning on doing?"

Kago flashed a glace up at her before going back to looking at the ground. "It originally wasn't an interest in Izuna. I was more interested in you and Madara at first. I know little about what happened in your old timeline and how you two were enemies and stuff... I just wanted to see how you were working it out. If you were trying to change things.

"So I shifted into a cat and snuck through into Kin's lab. Adjusted the specifications on her portal and came to see the human world for myself."

Kin jumped into the explanation at that moment. "Some gods have special abilities outside of what their names mean. It's mainly exclusive to those with royal blood but there are a couple exceptions. Kago can shapeshift and Teii can sense the emotions of others."

Sakura nodded, turning to Kago to continue.

"And well, I don't know, Izuna caught my eye. We hung out for a couple days–he thinks I'm a summon, whatever that is–and we became friends."

Sakura pursed her lips and shook her head. "If he thinks you're a summoning animal that's all fine and well. If you want to help, that's fine too." She finally looked Kago in the eyes. "But I'm not sure you're fully aware of what you're getting into. Have you gods ever had a war before? Witness the violence and death?"

"Not for many generations," Teii responded.

"Kago," her tone softened for the first time since she had met him, "Izuna and his clan are in the middle of a brutal war. He's used to it, Madara's used to it, I've lived through countless disasters. I don't want you to be overwhelmed and make a..." mistake "...wrong decision that could affect Izuna negatively.

"But, that said, I could honestly use your help if you think you're up to it and you promise to leave when things get rough..."

Kin and Sakura had since left the meeting and were now sitting in a small cafe.

The old soul sat in front of a wonderful slice of carrot cake and a small coffee, thanking all her lucky stars that the world of gods had a couple of her favourite treats. Kin had explained that with the research into human lives the gods had been impressed with and replicated many of the aspects of her world. Including carrot cake.

Sakura wondered if she could teach Madara a couple recipes that she liked and make him eat it so she could have the flavour too. This led her to toy with the idea of giving Madara a bunch of recipes to "invent", allowing him to become a chef instead of a ninja.
