            *****6 YEARS EARLIER*****

I arrived at my house, the kitchen light was on. But I couldn't see any movement. The police decided for a simple approach, knocking on the door. However, 3 officers would approach from I back for certain reasons. I was to wait in the care until my parents were handcuffed until I could go in.

The police headed in. I bit my lip nerviously. I watched them knock. I saw rapid movement heading towards the back. I covered my mouth, terror rising. A few moments later two police men pushed my parents out onto the porch, they were handcuffed. I got out of the car and ran up to them.

"I'm sorry!" I screamed, as my mom threw me the nastiest glare.

"YOU ARE A HORRIBLE DAUGHTER. I CAN'T BELIEVE I RAISED SUCH A FUCKING SLUT, YOU ARE BETTER OFF DEAD, Rhynna! YOU HEAR THAT? YOU'RE DEAD TO ME! I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU EVER AGAIN!" She screamed at me. My heart dropped and shattered.

"Come on." A police man said shoving her forward. I couldn't take it, I collapsed, falling to the ground.

I woke up and my head hurt a lot. I groaned. My eyes fluttered open, Gideon was sitting on a couch next to the chair I was in. He was drinking coffee and glanced at me. He instantly put it down when he saw I was awake.

"Ah, you're awake. Welcome to my house," he gestured around. "Well, let's show you around, then." He stood up and offered me a hand. I took it and stood up, instantly putting my hands to my forehead. "Are you alright?" He questioned looking concerned.

I shook my head, "My med.."I trailed off gripping my head trying to stop the intense pounding and beating. He quickly looked through all the medication they gave me and handed me a bottle with liquid and grabbed a little cup. He poured the ammount I needed and handed it to me. I drained it and sat with my head in my hands for a good five minutes. He studied me carefully as I did. When I eventually stood up, he stood up with me.

He started to show me around,  "So does that happen often?" He asked refering to the migrane. I shook my head.

"Only every few months or every few years." He nodded.

"This is the main hall way," he said as we walked down a long hallway. "It leads to the front door a one end and the other is the living room." We walked into the living room. He gestured down a dark, short hallway off of the living room. "That leads to the office and a bathroom." We headed into a kitchen that was attached to the living room. "This is the kitchen which includes a full pantry." He opened a door and revealed shelves stocked with food. He pointed to another door with a window. "That is the backyard, and this a hallway that leads to my room, your room, and the bathroom." He nodded to an arch way. "Oh! And the most important part," he pulled me into the living room and to a small staircase. "Go up, I'll be right behind you." I nodded and climbed up, a little nervous. What was up here? I climbed to the top and gasped in awe. It was a small room with wooden flooring. It had beautiful paintings on the walls and and a queen size bed. And best of all, a gorgeous balcony.  I walked out on it. It was gorgeous. I looked at the view, an amazing waterfall in the distance.

"Where are we?" I asked turning around.

Gideon grinned and simply said, "My house. Great view, eh?" I nodded it was  breathtakingly beautiful. I wanted to look at it forever.

       ***6 YEARS LATER (PRESENT)***

Today was Alexander's funeral. Gideon was taking me since he didn't trust me to drive yet. We left and as soon as we got there I started crying again. I looked at the casket, covering my mouth as I sobbed uncontrollably. Gideon put a hand on my back, trying to soothe me. I cried on his shoulder until the service started. They talked about how great a person he was when just 2 weeks ago he was wanted for murder. It made me mad the way they were talking about him. It made him seem very unlike himself. However, I controlled my anger until after the service. After me and Gideon waited outside for a few minutes. That's when i decided to get angry. So I told him exactly how I felt and he of course calmed me down, but I still wasn't happy with the church.

             ***LATER THAT NIGHT***

I woke up screaming in a cold sweat. Gideon was in my room within seconds. He sat on the bed next to me.

"Alex again?" He asked, smiling sadly.

I shook my head crying, "It was of my dad. I haven't seen my dad in six years.. Why would I dream about him now?"

Gideon frowned. "What happened in your dream?"

"I was my age, but I was back in that house and my dad took off his belt and was about to whip me with it, and I was crying and saying that I didn't mean to kill him and it was all an accident...." I said trailing off.

"Want some coffee?" He asked. I nodded and got up. The furnace kicked on and I screamed and ran to Gideon. He put a hand in my back and pushed me towards the kitchen. He turned on the light and started making coffee. I sat at the island and thought about my dream. All my dreams lately were all nightmares. Gideon placed a steaming cup of coffee in front of me and checked the time, 4:32am. He took a drink of his coffee and stood across the island from me.

"Are you sure that you're okay with me staying here?" I asked worriedly.

He laughed, "Of course! You're like my daughter Rhynna. Why wouldn't I be?" I shrugged and sipped my coffee. The furnace kicked off and I stiffened. Gideon put his hand on mine on the counter and patted it. "Its okay. I know its been a while. But it will be okay." I smiled and we both went back to bed.

                                ******

I woke up again around 1pm. I blinked surprised that I slept that late. I jumped out of bed and got dressed quickly. I had to go to work today, I decided not to take another day off since I had already taken a couple of days off. I  ran into the living room and grabbed an orange juice out of the fridge. Grabbing a granola bar too, I headed out the front door and down to the apartment building's parking garage. I got in my car and took a deep breath. After starting the car I headed towards my job, a waitress at a nearby diner. I arrived 10 minutes late. Apologizing to my boss, I grabbed a writing pad and went to take orders. The first table I served was a father, daughter, and the daughter's boyfriend. I could feel the tension between the father and boyfriend. The girl smiled and asked if they could order right away.

"Yes, you can order when you're ready." I said pulling out the pad.

"I'll take the Caeser Salad, with light dressing and the croutons on the side. Oh and a water." I rolled my eyes, typical.

The father spared me a glance, "I'll take a burger."

"Okay, what kind of burger?" I asked.

He looked at me annoyed, "I don't care, just give me any kind of burger." I rolled my eyes.

"And for you?" I asked the boyfriend.

"I'll take the steak, medium rare. And a coke." I nodded writing it down.

"I'll put these in." I walked back to the kitchen and gave the paper to the chef.

"Hard day, eh?" I nodded in agreement.

"How was work?" Gideon asked me, looking up from his computer as I walked in.

"Okay, it gives me money, I guess." Gideon nodded and went back to work. I decided to head out and have some fun since I was being way too sad lately. I headed out, grinning. Tonight was going to be epic.
