Chapter 12

The ringing startled me out of my slumber. Groaning, I got up and answered it.

"Hello?" I mumbled.

"Hey! Wake up, we are going out to breakfast!" Kayden's cheery morning voice blared through my house. I groaned. "I'll be there in a half hour." As soon as I heard that, I quickly got up and ran to the shower. I took a 10 minute shower before curling my hair and finally doing a smoky eye look. I pulled on my favorite fedora that I stole from Gideon. I strolled out of the house and to Kayden's car.

I kissed him on the cheek, "Where we eating breakfast?" I questioned.

"That is for me to know and you to find out." He laughed. "So, listen.. I've been thinking.. maybe we could move back by Gideon and get an apartment of our own? I know probably stupid and you probably aren't ready and all. And-"

I covered his mouth and laughed, "Sounds great Kayden." He sighed in relief. "But don't think I'm gonna give up crime or anything. I still got stuff to do." I grinned.

Kayden laughed and shook his head, "Didn't think you would, to be honest." I looked at him realizing he was seriously perfect for me. He got me in a way no one else had. I grabbed his free hand and held it in my own.

"Hey Kayden?" I asked.

"Hmm?" He asked quickly glancing at me.

"I love you." I whispered. He got the biggest grin I've ever seen, he looked at me, taking his eyes off the road. I looked up at the road, "Kayden!" I screamed as I saw a car was coming in our lane straight towards us. Kayden screamed as did I as we clashed with them. I heard glass shattering, I felt glass cutting into my body in several places, I heard bones cracking, before finally blacking out.

It was such a peaceful sleep. There was no pain, no hurting, no worrying. It felt like it would last forever and then I heard a voice.

"Wake up Rhynna. Why do we keep meeting like this? Please, you've been in a coma for nearly 3 weeks. I want you back. Please come back to me. I love you." I tried to move my hand to grasp who's ever it was. But I couldn't move my hand. I opened my eyes and blinked trying to adjust to the bright light. I heard a cry of excitement. "Rhynna? Rhynna! Doctor! Nurse! Rhynna is awake!" I glanced over at who spoke. A man stood there looking at me with excitement. "Rhynna how are you feeling?" I pulled my hand away, realizing it was just numb. I glanced at the man suspiciously.

"Rhynna, how are you feeling?" I looked weirdly at the man that just walked in. "Rhynna? Do you know where you are? Or what happened?"

"Who are you?" I asked. Where was I? What was he talking about?

The man who was in the door way came up to me, "I'm Doctor Kent," he pointed to the other man, "That is Gideon. He is your adoptive father, you were in a car accident 3 weeks ago. You were with Kayden and you collided with another car. You went into a coma due to a severe head injury. You were rushed here where we called your father and proceeded to work on you. You damaged your brain. The area of memory of course. And also maybe your nerve system was damaged a little bit. Can you wiggle your toes for me?" I tried to process everything he told me. I did as he asked and wiggled my toes.

"Um, can you wiggle your toes please?"

"I did. See?" I wiggled them again. He sighed.

"I'm so sorry. How about your knees, ankles, or whole leg?" I rolled my ankles around, bent my knee, and lifted my leg. "Okay, just the ankle down. Can you try and stand for me? Gideon, wanna help?" He stepped closer, I pulled away.

"Please Rhynna, I won't hurt you. You're my daughter and I love you." I nodded carefully and took his hand. I pulled my feet off the bed and slowly stood. My feet were completely numb now, I almost fell but Gideon caught me. "You okay?" He asked seeming generally concerned. I nodded slowly.

"You're my dad then?" I asked. My head really hurt right now. He nodded sadly.

"Rhynna, do you know who Kayden is?" I thought about it for a second and memories started to flood in. Gideon, Kayden, breakfast, the accident.

"Oh my god.." I whispered.

"Rhynna?" Gideon asked me siting me down.

"Gideon. Oh my god, Gideon."

"What Rhynna?"

"I killed him, I killed my boyfriend."

"No, Rhynna you didn't kill him, you were in an accident and he's not dead. The other driver was texting, and swerved into your lane-"

"No!" I yelled trying to stand up.

"Rhynna stop! You're paralyzed from the ankle down!" I fell on the ground and started sobbing.

"I'm sorry Kayden, I'm sorry!" I cried.

"Rhynna, he is alive and fine. He only broke his arm and a leg. He also had deeper cuts from the glass, but he is gonna be fine." Gideon reassured me.

I sighed, "I thought he was dead, and if he was it would have been my fault."

"What are you talking about?" He asked. I sighed again.

"I-" The door opened and Kayden came rushing in, minus the fact that he was limping so he looked quite ridiculous. I giggled at the sight of him and reached for him and Gideon helped me up. His arm in the cast wrapped around my back and his lips met mine. I pulled away and grinned at him.

"I thought you were dead," I whispered. He shook his head, I didn't even realize I was crying until he wiped my tears away.

"I'll never leave you. I love you." he whispered the last part. I grinned.

"That almost got us killed, I will never forget that." I whispered.

"I know, but its true. I love you."

"I love you too."

"And here is your keys. You are now officially discharged." Dr. Kent grinned. I smiled and took them. The doctors said I would probably never walk again, almost a month ago when I woke up. I proved them wrong by working really hard and I now had some feeling in my feet. Manly the ankles to the ball of my foot. But Dr. Kent said if I worked really hard on it, I might regain all feeling in my feet. I knew I would, I needed to. My future job needed it. I thanked him and walked out of the building. I semi-limped now since the accident, and I couldn't run yet. But I would work on it. I knew I could do it. I walked to my new car. Gideon bought it for me. It was specifically designed for me. I figured out how he could afford it too. He won the lottery. He had been trying to win that lottery as long as I'd known him and he finally did. I was super proud and extremely excited for him. He was taking his girlfriend out on a cruise as a celebration. I was just happy he was happy. All I needed to do was to go home and see my wonderful boyfriend before starting my classes. Of course they were online since it would be weird for a 28 year old to go to a college with 18-19 year old people. I smiled to myself as I got seated behind the wheel of my awesome car before pulling out of the parking lot.

The prologue came out yesterday and the first chapter will be uploaded today! I will try to update that book every two weeks. Anyways there is one more chapter of this story and then the epilogue.
