Four am

Chapter seven

Zoe Pov

The phone rings.

"Fuck." Cole mumbles. He looks down at his phone. "Peanut is your sister." What the hell would she want?" 

I put the phone on speaker. "Yes, Maddison?" I asked looking at Cole.

"Where the hell are you, I've been calling you." She said frantically.

"Maddie calm down, I went on a walk with Cole and I forgot my phone at home."

"Well Zoelle, come home now." Cole looks confused, by her response. 

"Okay... wait Maddie how did you know I wasn't home?"

"I-I um came into your room to- to ask you if you wanted to watch a movie"

"Stop lying you little shit you were checking to see if I was sleeping to steal my clothes." I said annoyed.

"Whattttt noooo. Me? I would never."

"Madison Victoria." I scold while rolling my eyes. 

"Okay I wanted to take your shoes, you know the really cute booties." She said quickly

"I swear to god when I come home and I don't see my booties in my closet I will burn all your clothes. Understand?" I said in a threatening voice.

"Yeah. Kay' bye." She hung up.

"I guess we should go." Cole said getting up and reaching his hand to mine.

We entered the house from the back because the front door was still locked. He started to go up the stairs, while I went to the kitchen. He turned around and said. "Night silly goose." He saw that I wasn't behind him and started looking around for me. "Zoe"

He started walking into the kitchen. I was planning to be sitting on the island just eating my ice cream but I thought it would be much more fun to scare the shit out of him.

I hid under the island and started crawling behind him. I stood up slowly and wrapped one arm around his waist and the other covered his mouth because I know he would scream like a little girl and wake my mom up. "Boo" He jumped and looked at me absolutely terrified.

"WHAT THE HELL PEANUT!" he whispered screamed. "You almost gave me a hear attack. You can't do that." 

"Good." I roll my eyes, gave him one of his world famous smirks and started to walk away. 

"Come here." Oh shit. I start running around the island and he's trying to catch me. I was able to dodge him for a while but he eventually caught me. "Can we go up now." He asks, nodding his head towards the stairs.

"Nope." I said, popping the 'p'.

"Why not?"

"Because I'm hungry." I turn to the fridge and open it. Pulling the Ben and Jerry's ice cream and a spoon.

"You're going to eat ice cream at 11:36 in the middle of the night?"

"Yeah, cause I'm hungry." I rolled my eyes. "Duh."

"Okay you do you silly goose, imma head to bed."

"Night." I sit up on top of the island eating my ice cream scrolling through socials. When I realized I finished the whole tub of ice cream it was already 12. I usually don't stay up past 11:30 since I would be a zombie at dance. But for some reason I'm not tired at all. I walk up the stairs and I plop into bed. Not bothering to take Cole's hoodie off. 

I was so confused when he gave me his sweatshirt and that he opened up to me so much tonight. Probably because he was in his favourite place and he probably felt safe, or I'm just good at getting people to talk. I went to the bathroom to take off my mascara and to brush my teeth. I just laid in bed watching Netflix until I dozed off.

I woke up and turned to see what time it was. Oh shit. It's 8:05 school starts in 20 minutes, why the hell didn't my alarm go off. I was frantically trying to get ready. I ran to the bathroom and brushed my hands through my hair trying to tame it. I've never been more grateful for my short straight black hair. I ran to my closet and changed into light grey Nike sweatpants and my light blue crop top with thick spaghetti straps, I slipped my Nike Air Max 270's on. 

I threw Cole's hoodie into my backpack just in case I get cold. Since I go to the private academy I should be wearing my uniform but the Student Council made a whole petition for free wear. The school council really only had one choice and to listen to them as most of the funding of the school comes from all parents. They have to keep the students happy to keep the parents happy and to keep the money rolling in.  

I run down stairs almost breaking my foot, yeah I should slow down. No one's home great, I have to drive. There's something about driving that I hate, these past few weeks I've either been catching a ride with Cole or Adri. I'm running around like a crazy woman looking for the keys to my dad Range Rover. I usually drive it because he doesn't need it when he's 35 thousand feet in the air. Found them. You'll never guess where, in a random drawer in the kitchen.

I finally got to school. I missed homeroom since it's only half an hour long. I'm so lucky to have english first. Our teacher Mrs. Dunne is fresh out of college and the most chill and laid back teacher. I swing open the door just as Mrs. Dunne is doing the attendance. "Hey sorry I'm late."

"No worries Zoe take a seat."

I look towards an empty seat right behind Adri and beside Cole, great just great.

"Hey Zo you good you're never late?" Adri asks, turning around.

"Yeah I had a late night and my alarm never went off." I sat down next to Cole with a huge grin on his face.

"Why didn't you wake me." I punched Cole and his grin turned into a smirk.

"You looked so peaceful," he said sarcastically.

"You mother fucker, you turned off my alarm didn't you?" I say quietly looking at Mrs. Dunne while she pulls up the lesson for today on the smart board.

"That's what you get for last night." Really he turned off my alarm because I scared the shit out of him, that's not fair.

"Wait what happened last night." Callum Cole's best friend asks, just as Adri and Leah turned around.

"Girl spill." Leah says

"Nothing happened, Maddie, C - I mean Cole and I went on a walk last night." I lie. But it was only a white lie, and what they dont know wont hurt them.

 Adri gives me the tell me everything later look.

"Oh yeah totally." Cole says sarcastically. I kick him under the table and lean into him "Colton. Shut up."

I haven't realized that I have most of my classes with Cole and Adri. Me and Adri took mostly the same classes, the ones that people don't usually pick. But I guess I was just stuck with Cole randomly. 

I love english class. Today we start reading Othello, one of my many favourite Shakespeare books. Ever since I was little I was interested in book and then later English when I started going to school. 

On the other hand, for the whole class Cole was complaining about how he thinks this is boring or how he's telling me that they talk weirdly. It was strange coming from him considering he does so well in history.

After listening to Cole complain for 75 minutes the bell rang. But I still had art class with him, Adri, Nate and David (Adri's twin brother). We said bye to Callum and Leah. When I look back to see where Adri was she was hugging Callum bye. I nudge  Cole to turn around and look too.

"Get a fucking room Callum." He shouts.
