Keith
Endless nights of the same routine. Staring at the cup of water on the kitchen table as the clock ticks in the background. This was the twelfth time this month that Keith hasn't been able to sleep. Yeah, Keith was pretty exhausted throughout the day and his boyfriend took notice of that. He even tried to help Keith but he pushed him away and built up walls. In their relationship it was mostly honesty and trust. Keith doesn't do any of those. He doesn't like judgement and he can barely take his own.
He doesn't know how long he's been awake. He wasn't eating, sleeping, or attending any of his classes. Keith just filled up on water and took pills to keep him awake for most of the day. Keith let out a long sigh and rubbed his eyes. He was tired. Physically and mentally. Keith turned his head to the clock and it said 3am. Keith rested his head on the table and let his leg bounce in frustration. He has never been so scared to fall asleep in his whole entire life. What makes it worse is that he's keeping it all bottled up inside. It's slightly seeping through the cracks of his walls and consuming him. He felt like a puppet on strings. His night terrors are hella terrifying and he can't handle them. Keith rested his eyes for a split second and when he opened his eyes he saw he was in a dark room.
'Fuck,' was Keith's first thought. He saw a lantern in front of him so he bent over and picked it up. There was a little flame inside it. He squinted his eyes and saw the little flame dancing. It was dancing so gracefully. Keith felt a little smile creep up and when he lowered his lantern, there was his old house. Keith gulped and took small steps towards it. There wasn't anything around the house, it was a barren wasteland. Keith walked up the steps and opened the door. He held his lantern up and walked inside. All the items from his childhood were in the house. It was a bit dusty but nothing Keith couldn't handle.
Keith walked up the rickety stairs and held up his lantern to see down the dark hall. He was very cautious and took small steps just in case if the house, somehow, collapses. He turned right and saw his old bedroom. His stuff animals were unharmed and everything was how it was suppose to be. 'Maybe this is a good dream.' Keith thought to himself as he set the lantern down and picked up his stuffed hippo. He hugged it close to his chest and sat on his old bed.
He jumped when he heard a horrid scream coming from downstairs. Keith quickly stood up and rushed out the room. (He ended up knocking the lantern over which caused the glass to break and the fire to spread.)
Keith hurried down the stairs to see his parents huddling in a corner to get away from the fire. "Mom, Dad!" Keith called out and ran over there but was stopped when part of the second floor collapsed which caused more of the fire to spread. Keith swatted the dust from area and tried to find a different way to get to his parents. Keith heard a maniacal laugh echoing throughout the burning house. He saw the look of fear on his parents face.
"What about Keith?!" His mother exclaimed, "He's still upstairs!"
"I'm right here!" Keith yelled and held out his arms. "I'm safe, but you guys have to get out of here!"
Sadly, they couldn't hear him. Keith's father rushed through the flames which caused his own skin to burn. "No, don't go up there!" Keith shouted at his father that was already running up the stairs. He had to make a decision, he knew he couldn't save them both. But it looks like he didn't have to make a decision because the fire spread everywhere. It blocked all exits and there was no way Keith could get to his mother. Keith watched as the fire consumed his mother fully, leaving nothing but her ashes to float in the air.
"Damn it!" Keith growled and punched the wall. He was so fucking weak. Keith turned around and rushed up the burning stairs. He ran pass the flames, not caring if they burn his skin off. Keith froze dead in his tracks when he reached his old room.
"Daddy, where's mommy?" Little Keith asked with a worried face. Keith's dad smiled softly, "She's downstairs."
"Is she okay?"
"She's fine." His dad answered and opened the window. "Red paladin, you're going to have to jump, okay?"
Little Keith looked out the window and saw the trampoline his parents bought for him last year. It was a long way down. "D-Dad, that's a long fall."
"You're brave, Keith. You can do it!" His dad encouraged him, "When you jump down, run to the nearest civilization. Don't look back, okay?"
Little Keith nodded and swung his legs over the edge of the window frame. He gave his dad a scared look and his dad gave him a kiss on the forehead. "You can do it."
Little Keith sucked in a breath and pushed himself off the window frame. Keith ran to his father's side and stared out the window. He saw himself running and not looking back as his father demanded of him. Keith heard his father coughing due to the smoke and lack of air. "Dad!"
Keith tried to help his dad but his hand kept going through his father. "No!"
His father collapsed right next to time and the fire ate him up like he was nothing. Keith's tears and screams could be heard throughout the burning house. He curled up on the floor and let out all his pain and suffering. Keith closed his eyes and opened them again and saw the house burnt down to a crisp. He reluctantly stood up and tried to wipe away his tears. Keith slowly walked out of the rumble and stared at the place he use to call home.
Keith saw a huge shadow towering behind him and when he turned around he saw a wall of fire. "N-No." Keith whispered and took a few steps back. The wall of fire grew bigger and bigger until he was completely surrounded by its flames. "P-Please no." Keith choked out a sob and tripped over his foot. The wall of fire formed a face and that face grinned deviously at him. "You're next." The wall of fire launched itself at Keith and Keith was consumed by the flame he hadn't started.
Keith shot up up from his sleep and fell out of his chair. He was heavily breathing and he tried to take in his surroundings but couldn't. Everything was blurry and he couldn't take in any oxygen. He was crying and vigorously shaking. 'When will the night terrors end? When will they fucking end?!'
