Receding to a Quiet Distance

Quickly.

You have to get out of this place.

Trees all around.

A branch scratches your face.

You walk quickly.

Quiet.

Eyes watch from each direction.

You're not alone.

You have no protection.

So be quiet.

Hush.

You hear breathing that's not yours...

You turn around, and it goes away.

There's not a sound. You're not okay.

Hush.

The quiet continues for some time,

But you feel as if something is getting closer.

You might be going out of your mind.

But you know she's somewhere and you'll have to face her.

You found her.

Out of the woods.

Into the quiet.

You embrace her.

She's all that is good.

She's a zealot.

She tells you she loves you and she's so glad you made it!

The woods were your torment and you finally escaped it.

But you're in her arms, eyeing the woods.

You're safe from harm, but don't feel like you should.

You tune her out as she is singing your praises,

And you let her go, looking for eyes and not faces.

One step forward, the woods lie beyond.

Would anyone know if you leave? If you're gone?

You take another step.

You breathe another breath.

You have to know your heart.

Can you leave, if you have left?

Sure you were with a comforting friend.

That doesn't mean all your troubles will end.

There's someone who's still feeling lost in the woods.

There's someone who's never at peace in the woods.

There's someone who's seeing the cost of the woods.

Her only friends are all the trees of the woods.

She's still in the woods.

You're still in the woods.

You look back to your friend and she's still smiling.

She doesn't realize inside your still dying.

She thinks that you're fixed cause you happened to grin.

She doesn't know, not even you knew...the woods lie within.

This whole picture is somewhere, A place in my mind.

Lately it's where I spend most of my time.

Sometimes it's home, a place where I'm free.

I'm free cause the only one there is me.

Sometimes it's somewhere I hide all my tears.

I now have a river built up from the years.

Yes. This is a place where I go and I cry.

This is the place that I'm going to die.

These are the woods.

The monsters are mine.

These are the woods, Where I planned to flatline.

Do you remember I said I'm not alone?

I guess theses woods weren't only my home.

I guess I was wrong.

I finally see.

There's somebody else here dying with me.

We're both in this place that exists in our minds.

We're both in this place doing 'perfectly fine!'

We're in this place. We already dug our own graves.

We're in this place. It's both her and me so we stay.

The people outside the woods want me out of it.

They think that it works like that.

They know nothing about it.

This girl though, we both made that river of tears.

We've both been hear hurting for all of those years.

Together we've finally figured it out.

You can't escape the woods.

Not once. Not ever.

But they aren't as scary when we face them together.
