"Check."
I scowled at Austin while glancing at the board. Mas madami pa akong piyesa, pero kanina niya pa ako natatalo! Nakakainis rin ang talino nitong lalaking 'to e.
I moved my king away. "Nakakairita ka."
"Sungit," he chuckled lightly, moving a piece again. "Check."
"I told you to go easy on me," I grumbled. "Kaya ayaw kita kalaban. Nakakapikon kang kalaro."
"Hey! Magkalaban tayo! 'Di mo dapat ako tinuturuan."
"Kanina pa tayo nandito oh," tinuro niya 'yung timer. "Bilisan mo. Kanina pa ako tinetext ni Marcus. Magsisimula na raw laro niya."
"Ha? Talaga?" bigla akong nataranta.
"Just make the move, Jill."
I moved the piece and took one of his. Mukhang may chance pa ako para manalo!
However, he looked at the board like I made the wrong decision. I frowned, crossing my arms to my chest. "Judgmental ha."
"I'm not saying anything."
I moved again, taking another piece from his side. He sighed, staring at the board like he was conflicted. Bigla tuloy akong kinabahan. Is that a good sign or bad?
Biglang tumunog ulit ang cellphone niya. Nilabas niya ito at naiiritang pinatay.
"Tatapusin ko na nga 'to," he mumbled, taking the rope and placing it near my king. "Checkmate."
My mouth fell agape. Nandun pala 'yun?! Pero this guy just had to pull out his best moves, didn't he?
"You're annoying," I pouted. Akala ko talaga may chance ako manalo!
"2nd place is not that bad, Jill," he ruffled my hair, helping me stand up. "Tara na. Kanina pa raw sila naghihintay."
We navigated through the busy halls, trying our hardest to get through the crowd.
"Why are there so many people?" mahina kong binulong kay Austin.
"They don't like the sport, they like the players."
'Yung isang grupo nga, may face cut-out ng isa naming ka-batch. Ganito ba palagi sa mga laro nila? Grabe 'yung hype!
"Go Marcus!" I heard a group cheer.
My eyes widened when I saw that the crowd of his supporters. I saw Marcus turned to them and smile. Agad naman silang tumili.
