Switching off the alarm that was ringing beside him, Kun woke up rubbing his eyes and got ready for the day. He made his bed neatly, tucking the blanket underneath his bed. The rest of his room was bare and immaculate, just as how he likes it.
Staring at the neatly ironed uniform hung at his wardrobe, he gave himself a mental prep talk for the first day in a new school. He took a deep breath and headed to the elevator.
.
Yuxin let out a huge whine as her brother, Yibo pulled her curtain back, letting the sunray hit her room, brightening up the whole room.
YuXin, "Close it!!"
Yibo, "Time to wake up, if not you won't get a ride to school."
YuXin pulled herself up reluctantly and let out a huge yawn, not bothering to cover her mouth while doing so. Yibo scoffed at her with disdain, "That must be the most unglamorous yawn ever, you look like a hippo." Ignoring her brother's remark, YuXin dragged her feet to her uniform, proceeding to take off her shirt, "I'm going to change, are you going to stand here and stare?"
Yibo, "No thanks, not interested in your washboard figure."
YuXin threw her slipper towards Yibo as the latter dodged it swiftly and left the room chuckling as he closed the door. This was morning as usual in the siblings household, a flying slipper is certainly part of their routine somehow.
After breakfast, Yibo hurried YuXin out of the house as they rode on his motorbike, making their way to school. Yibo stopped his bike a block away from school in a secluded small alley. YuXin hopped off the bike and tried to buckle the helmet clumsily, earning a scoff from her brother.
Yibo,"You seemed to struggle with this no matter how many times I've taught you."
YuXin, "Yeah, I'm useless with this, hurry up and help me."
As Yibo unbuckled her helmet off her head, he reminded her with his nagging, "Remember keep a low profile, don't mention me as your brother, don't follow strangers just because they give you food, make new friends. Oh and get home on your own, I've got dance practice later." YuXin merely nodded at his rambling and assured, "I'm not three year old kid, I can take care of myself." With that, she walked off and headed to school while Yibo looked at her for a brief moment with a smile on his lips, happy that his sister is finally in the same school as him for once.
In the school hall, Kun was seated with his friend, Zhengting. The two of them had instantly become the centre of attention amongst the students in the hall. Kun steeled himself to ignore the chatters surrounding him, he wasn't fond of this unintentional popularity due to his looks. The girls around them had been whispering amongst themselves, stealing a look at the two of them every now and then.
"There's the ice prince, I can't believe he's in our school."
"Zhengting looks like a comic book character."
"The two of them looks like models, I can stare at them the whole day."
Hearing the comments, Kun simply shut his eyes, switching his attention off. On the other hand, Zhengting would flash a courteous smile with a slight nod at the girls who were gazing at them, causing them to swoon loudly. Even though they were childhood friends, they have a completely different personality - an outgoing Zhengting and a cold aloof Kun pairing.
Noticing the commotion while the principal was making his welcoming speech, YuXin couldn't help but turned around and smile at the girls with her hands on her lips, "Shh, the principal is talking."
YuXin glanced at the two guys curiously who were the centre of attention. At the same moment, Kun opened his eyes and their eyes met. YuXin immediately turned back in fluster muttering to herself, if looks could kill. Kun's icy cold look made her shudder slightly.
The principal's draggy and boring speech finally ended as he cued the first year top scorer for the entrance exam, also known as the representative student on stage for a welcome speech. YuXin stood up and walked to the stage thinking what a drag it was to be speaking on stage.
YuXin, "Congratulations everyone for entering this school. Let's just have fun, make friends, create memories in this school."
With that, she bowed with a smile and walked off the stage as the students applauded loudly, thankful for her short speech.
Xue Er, "Yah YuXin, your speech was the best!"
Xue Er patted YuXin's back with a huge grin as they made their way to their class. The two of them has been classmates since forever and naturally, Xue Er followed YuXin to this school without hesitation. It was unimaginable to have the two being separated. YuXin smiled and patted Xue Dr's head endearingly, "Of course, it's not like I prepared any speech to begin with." And of course she didn't, she would rather spend her time on dance chereography and song composition than coming up with a speech for the ceremony.
The two of them entered the classroom and YuXin pulled Xue Er to sit at the back of the class, nearest to the back door. That way, I'd be able to go to the canteen faster, YuXin smirked. As soon as they sat down, YuXin pulled out her textbooks from her bag and arranged it as a pile on the table neatly.
Xue Er, "You... You never change.."
Xue Er shooked her head in disapproval while YuXin smiled and lie down comfortably on the pile of her makeshift book pillow, drifting off to sleep. Her nap was unfortunately short lived as the girls in the class started shrieking loudly.
"AHH, THE ICE PRINCE IS IN THIS CLASS!!"
YuXin couldn't help but cringed her brows, squinting her eyes in annoyance as Kun walked into the class calmly and sat down with Zhengting who was bowing at the girls courteously beside him.
YuXin couldn't help but sniggered at the nickname ice prince. It seemed real fitting for the guy who remained expressionless, just like a block of ice.
The girls in the class started crowding around them, snatching the seats around the two of them as though they are snatching for winning lottery tickets.
"Alright class, this would not be your seating arrangement. You will be drawing lots for your seats," The form teacher, Ms Wang, announced as she entered the room hearing the commotion where the girls were trying to snatch up seats around Kun. She had expected the girls in the class to go amok with two popular figures here and she wasn't about to receive complains from teachers about the students not paying attention.
Almost immediately, the girls started to whine but Ms Wang remained unmoved. In fact, she was even more annoyed and ushered the class to quicken their pace.
Xue Er pulled a long face and waved goodbye to YuXin as they moved apart to their designated seats. She didn't expect to be separated with her best friend so quickly. YuXin couldn't believe her luck when she drew her lot for the sitting arrangement. Her seat was exactly where she originally sat. She pressed her lips to contain her smile and lie back on her book pillow, catching some shut eye while the rest of the students began moving.
Kun settled down at his new designated seat. Glancing at his partner who was sleeping soundly, he was silently thankful for the peace and quiet, hoping she would not be another shrieking fan girl. He did not need any more of those after hearing people gasping at him and staring at him for the whole morning.
Right on cue, YuXin woke up after noticing movement on the seat to her right. She turned her head to the right and flash a lazy smile with her eyes still half closed, "I'm YuXin, what's your name?"
Kun, "Cai Xukun."
Kun spoke coldly without a shred of friendliness in his tone.
YuXin rubbed her eyes and added, "Let's be friends."
Kun glanced at her for a brief moment before replying, "No thanks."
