[4] Friend

After the first week of school, YuXin has become acquainted with most of the classmates, even Kun's loyal fan base in class after seeing how YuXin was simply being nice to everyone in general. Plus, with her short cropped hair, they thought she was less of a threat compared to other girls. She does pay extra attention to Kun though, like placing a chocolate bar on his desk every morning and chatting up with him even though most of the time he merely gives a nod or a one word answer. Even though Kun was relatively cold towards her, YuXin still continue to chat up to him with her usual friendly tone, disregarding his cold reply.

Kun was slowly getting used to YuXin's jovial personality and her calling him Kun Kun though he didn't show it. When Zhengting asked if Kun likes YuXin though, he replied, "Does not hate" which was still far from liking. Truth was, he doesn't really know or care about romantic love and all that, nor was he good at establishing relationships with others. His life revolved around excelling in studies and being a model student in school rather than paying attention to the other miscellaneous whatnot. Furthermore, the girls around him have been difficult to handle, some even went to the extent of crying in front of him when he rejected their confession, scarring him a little.

During physical lesson, the teacher assigned them to pair up with the opposite gender in class for a three legged race. Kun was paired up with a bespectacled soft spoken girl whose face turned beet red the instant Kun stood beside her. Without saying much, Kun bend down and tied the sash around their legs.

YuXin on the other hand, was paired with another tall sporty student. Both of them had a slight competitive edge in them and they soon started discussing their strategy to win this game animatedly. Kun let out a deep breath seeing how YuXin was smiling widely while chatting with the other guy. He immediately turned and walked with to the starting line with his partner following closely limping behind him.

As he stood at the starting line getting ready for the race, Kun said to his partner, "Don't fall behind." She nodded her head furiously and adjusted her spectacle getting ready for the race.

With a shrill whistle from the teacher, the race started. Kun set out with a steady pace with the girl as they walked in tandem while some of the other pairs were struggling not to fall. YuXin though, was performing brilliantly with her partner, walking briskly with ease being first in the race so far.

Seeing YuXin overtaking him, Kun quickened his pace and walked faster while his partner tried her best to follow his speed. Kun and YuXin were neck to neck as they sped towards the finishing line while the other teams lagged behind. In the decisive moment, Kun's partner accidentally tripped and fell, causing Kun to lose the race as YuXin crossed the finishing line first.

Instead of celebrating their victory, YuXin untied the sash around their ankle and ran towards Kun and the girl, "Are you alright?" She squatted down and inspect the girl's wound while Kun undid the sash.

Blood was oozing from scraped wound on the girl's knee and she was grimacing in pain.

YuXin, "Can you stand?"

YuXin held onto her arm and helped her up slowly but the girl winced in pain as she tried to stand on her left foot. "My ankle.." she uttered softly.

"It could be a sprain. Kun Kun, can you carry her to the infirmary?" YuXin asked and Kun stared at her for moment clenching his jaw. "Well it's not like I have the strength to carry her, plus you are her partner."

Kun pursed his lips slightly and bend down while YuXin helped the girl to climb on his back. The girl face was blushing in shades of red as she held onto Kun, who walked off to the infirmary without a word.

"Thank you.. Cai Xukun," The girl said when Kun helped her down to the infirmary bed while waiting for the doctor. "Can I call you.. Kun Kun?"

"No." Kun replied curtly without looking at her.

"Okay.. Ah my name is.." without waiting for her to finish her sentence, Kun walked off once he spotted the doctor entering the office.

"My name is Xiao Ning.." the girl mumbled.

When Kun entered the class, he was immediately questioned by YuXin, "How's she? Is she alright?"

Kun nodded his head slightly.

YuXin nudged Kun playfully as soon as he sat down. "I think she is your fan as well, did you see how she blushes when you carried her? I think she may have fallen for you."

Kun furrowed his brows slightly and looked at YuXin who was grinning from ear to ear, oblivious to his negative reaction. "Though I think you should have carried her in a princess hug manner, that would have been a perfect way to carry a gi-" she stopped immediately catching Kun's deadly stare.

Patting Kun's back to pacify him, YuXin laughed awkwardly, "Kidding.. I was just kidding.."

Muttering under her breath, YuXin said "Being so cold and serious like this, I pity the girls who fallen for your looks."

Kun widened his eyes slightly and glared hard at YuXin, causing the latter to retreat a little and apologised sheepishly. Sometimes, Kun wonder if she is riling him up on purpose when she speaks so carelessly. 

Kun,"Maybe you should use your brain for something more useful."

After school, the girl was still not back from the infirmary and YuXin offered to bring her bag to her. As she walked towards the infirmary, she could hear a commotion coming from within.

"Don't think you are special just because Kun carried you."

"Yeah, I bet he must be forced to do so, you are not even worthy of his touch."

Rolling her eyes, YuXin stepped in and cleared her throat loudly to make her presence known. Seeing the familiar group of girls who mobbed her, she laughed.

"You girls again? Don't tell me you carried your scissors here to threaten this girl too."

Hearing YuXin's comment, the girls stomped towards YuXin surrounding her, "Just because you could get away last time doesn't mean you can do the same this time round." 

The girls lunged towards YuXin attacking her while she tried her best to dodge their attack. However, she was soon overpowered and a girl's fist punched straight at her face that YuXin barely had time to dodge and could only close her eyes to brace for the impact.

"What do you think you are doing?" a voice boomed as he caught the girl's fist in the nick of time.

I wanted to write something more lighthearted but somehow my plot became more heavy than expected. So yeah, more drama than comedic FYI.
