Arabella's POV
With George's hurtful words still fresh in my mind, I stepped out into the courtyard and threw a hopefully convincing smile on my face.
The whole area was filled with fairly lights hanging from the stone walls, dimly lighting the area. It looked very pretty.
As I looked around the lights, I noticed Mcgonagall quickly walking towards me, her hands reaching out to grab mine.
"There you are dear," she squeezed my hands with a smile, "just in time."
I gave her a small smile back, determined to keep up this happy act until I was back in my dorm alone.
She stepped beside me, allowing us to walk ahead as I spotted the journalist Rita Skeeter with a photographer also by her side, setting up his camera.
Then, I noticed Cedric stood alone, leaning against the stone wall whilst he looked up and stared out into the moonlight.
I had to admit, although I didn't necessarily fancy Cedric anymore, he was awfully good looking.
"I think Miss Skeeker will be ready for you both in a few moments, you go and wait with Mr Diggory and I will call you over shortly." Mcgonagall said before shooing me off towards Cedric.
I felt my stomach tie in a knot and I slowly walked over whilst I fiddled with my hands. I'd just had a rather unpleasant encounter with George and I wasn't really up for having one with Cedric too.
As I got to Cedric, he took his focus off of the evening sky and turned to face me, his face lit with a golden glow by the now almost fully set sun.
"Evening." He nodded his head and smiled, almost looking rather awkward.
"Hi." I answered bluntly, looking at my feet.
Whenever I saw Cedric, I couldn't help but think about how much he hurt me when he slept with Lavender, and how badly he used to treat me in our relationship.
I admit we had some good times, brilliant times even, but I'd also experienced my lowest low whilst being with Cedric.
"I appreciate you doing this, I know you could have said no." he shrugged, tilting his head back and leaning it against the wall.
"It's not a big deal." I mumbled, continue to play with my hands and look around, avoiding eye contact.
"I mean you could of chosen to spend you Friday evening with your favourite Weasley boys, but you didnt." he lips curled into a small smirk.
"I'd rather not." I scoffed under my breath without thinking.
"Oh, I sense trouble in paradise?" he lifted his head off of the wall and looked over at me.
I looked up at him, catching his gaze for the first time, "None of your business Diggory." I raised my eyebrow and folded my arms across my chest.
"Alright alright, I wont ask," he joked, holding his hands up.
I tried not to let a smile creep up on my first as I continued to glare at him.
"Come on cheer up," he cooed, lightly shoving my shoulder, trying to ease some of the tension.
I lowered my arms and relaxed my face, grinning slightly at his jokey behaviour.
"See you're smiling," he praised, smiley widely back "I promise I'll cheer you up, you know I'm very good at that."
I sighed, relaxing my shoulders slightly and letting the tense feeling in my body go, beginning to feel more comfortable around him.
If there was any part of Cedric I missed, this was it. He charm always seemed to make me smile even when I didn't want to.
